If you really want to get away from it all... Daufuskie is charming and completely remote!
It was beautiful and quiet and charming and we loved our stay, but we had to be careful to avoid alligators (we visited with two children under 5 and an 8-month old puppy!) If you play golf, you will not be disappointed (although you have to be careful of alligators that may wander onto the course). I'm glad I looked the island up online and read as much as I could BEFORE we left, because I would not have expected how quiet and secluded this beach resort really is. Visitors MAY NOT drive cars onto the island (rental golf carts are available), and you should bring most of the food staples that you will need (there are only a few restaurants and very limited places to purchase groceries, although you can pre-order them to be delivered when you arrive). It was a wonderful place for a family vacation, a long as we kept a close watch of our grandchildren and puppy!
Check in was super easy with Susan! She picked us up at the dock and took us to the house. The house was large and had plenty of space for 6 adults. Very clean and the beds were very comfortable! We had a very nice stay!
Not far from Freeport Marina and tucked away on Melrose golf course, this spot was ideal for me and a few friends to enjoy a weekend away from everything. Tons of wildlife to see and listen to. Great island to explore. If you have kids there is a great loft upstairs with several beds and an area for them to hang out.
The only thing I "issue" I had with our stay was learning from a Susan Jones employee that a golf cart was supposed to come with the house and we were never offered one. We had to rent our own. You absolutely need a golf cart to fully enjoy this island and many houses do come with them. I would recommend ironing this detail out before arriving on island.
This home is beautiful. Because of the location on an island, it is important to pay attention to the recommendations from Susan, but she was amazing getting us to the house and making sure we had everything we needed. I wished we couldâve stayed longer.
The house is roomy and comfortable with amazing views from the two master bedrooms downstairs. The kitchen is a dream for anyone who cooks (this island is not for people who don't, lol). A combination of nautical and nostalgic decor - beautiful and homey. The screened in porch allowed us to enjoy the outdoors without worrying about bugs - such a nice touch. We loved it!
