Earl Young's houses are a big reason people come to Charlevoix and the best way to see one is to stay in one. As a place to stay, the house was beautifully appointed, comfortable, clean and convenient. I spent a lot of time ensconced on the sofa with the fire roaring in the fireplace reading a book about Earl Young, who's house I was sitting in. One of his goals was to make his houses cozy and homey...from day 1. This house welcomed us in and covinced us that an afternoon spent by the fire or looking out at Lake Michigan was an afternoon well spent. The interior design is amazing and something you can't see at the other mushroom houses, all privately owned and closed to the public. Built-in storage, heated floors, two working fireplaces, views to die for, amazing design details. Its an easy to walk downtown to shops (Dockside Books!!!) and resturants (That French Place lives up to its 5 star reviews). We also enjoyed an easy run along the lake through Boulder Park (Young's big development). Everyone we met in town was very friendly and welcoming; appropriate for a place that has been a tourist haven since the the 1800s. Final Note: Charlevoix had a suprise storm that dropped 2 feet of snow three days before we arrived. Our VRBO had the sidewalk completely cleared with shovel and a bucket of salt, should we need it. THANK YOU. GREAT STAY.
