Villa Lorena - Country House in Valdarno, Tuscany

Restored stone house with garden and private pool situated in the country-side around Arezzo (approx.. 10 km away), in the small village of Pieve San Giovanni. This property, formerly used as a mill, was turned into a nice holiday home. Although located within a small town, this house is quiet and offers nice views over the surrounding landscape.
Outside, guests can enjoy use of a spacious garden with a gazebo and a private swimming pool. The house interiors are welcoming, furnished in a rustic style.
About 4 km away there is Ponte Buriano, a small town on the banks of the Arno river whose ancient bridge was painted on the background of Leonardo’s most famous painting, Mona Lisa.
The nearby town of Arezzo offers daily train connections to Florence, Orvieto, Rome.
Distances: Pieve San Giovanni with grocery and a restaurant 30 meters away, a supermarket is approx. 4 km away, Arezzo with shops of all kinds and railway station 10 km, Cortona 41 km away, the Chianti region is within 50 / 80 km, Siena 70 km away, the Val d’Orcia area is 60 / 90 km, Florence 90 km away.
At guests’ disposal: garden, gazebo with garden furniture and barbecue, fenced-in, swimming-pool (8 x 4 m - depth 1,2 m) reserved for guests' exclusive use.

We had a wonderful week with our family. Patrizia is a very kind host and even looked after our dog when we went a day to Florence. The garden is great with a beautiful view and the pool completes it all. Thanks for this lovely week, Patrizia!

Great Hosts but the Villa needs love.

Let me start off by saying the hosts ( a couple that lives 45 minutes away and their son studying in university in another city) are great. They can speak English ( the son), French ( the mother) and Italian ( all 3). Very responsive and they want to please. The state of the villa is ok. The walls are generally scuffed and dirty and the bathrooms would probably benefit from a refresh. In particular the showers which are tiny and tend to be...very used.The view is mostly visible from the second floor but it's still quite authentic. The pool is an out of ground attachment its quite refreshing given the heat and limited AC. The house would also benefit from a more complete cleaning. Recognizing its in the country side, it's filled with spiders of all sizes, ants ( including the t.o ground level rooms and beds) and scorpions! 4 out of the 5 rooms has functioning AC but the hosts controlled it at a distance. They generally opened it on time when we requested it ( we proposed a fixed schedule to simplify things) The location was interesting, loads of ascending and descending roads. In the immediate village, there's a small pizzeria, reservations were preferred for groups larger than 2-3. About ten minutes aways there was another restaurant called Buon Riposo, its larger and reservations weren't required. In summary, it's a nice place with great folks that run it but it needs love. Would I rent it knowing what I know now? yes bit not at the price we paid. Cheers!

Sehr schöne Villa! Empfehlenswert

Die Villa war sehr groß, sauber und war in einer tollen Lage in einem kleinen Ort an dem es alles vor der Haustüre gibt. Spielplatz Tennisplatz, Restaurant. Der Pool ist in einer super Lage mit Blick auf die toskanische Landschaft. Er ist eingezäunt sodass kleine Kinder nicht selber zum Pool können. An Haushaltsgeräten war alles vorhanden und die Vermieter sind stets erreichbar und sehr hilfsbereit. Wir würden jederzeit wieder herkommen.

Gloomy interior

The property was in a perfect location and was very roomy. However, we found the interior very gloomy and dark. The décor was not to our taste at all, although this is, of course, personal taste, but we could not find anywhere that was comfortable to sit. There were also a few things that would have improved our stay - eg, some mugs, a toaster and a dishwasher. The garden furniture was also very dated and uncomfortable. Having said that, it was in a beautiful spot. The pool was lovely and the owners very kindly kept it open for us in late October, although unfortunately the weather was not good enough for us to use it. The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful and welcoming and they did not interfere with our stay at all. If the villa was updated and decorated, it would make a perfect holiday location. We also felt that the cleaning charge of 115 euros was rather excessive.

Good but could be better

We enjoyed our stay here. The owners were really nice, the views spectacular, the pool lovely and the pizzeria in the village excellent. Just a few additions would have made it even better. There were no parasol by the pool which meant that when the sun was at its height we had to find shade elsewhere. There were no tongs for the barbecue. Some cooking oil in the kitchen would have been useful as would some mugs rather than just the small coffee cups. The one thing I would disagree with is that it sleeps six. Yes there are beds for six but two single beds are on the landing at the top of the stairs. In my opinion these are not suitable for children, I'd worry about the stairs if they got up in the night. Nor do i think are they suitable for adults, the only toilets are en suite to the bedrooms and they would have nowhere to hang their clothes. So treat it as sleeping four with a couple of spare beds in case of arguments!

Beautiful Tuscay

The Villa was a perfect setting for our first trip to Tuscany. Very traditional in a beautiful, quiet and relaxed setting. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely return.

Sehr tolles Ferienhaus (Weingut) in der Toskana

Wir haben dort einer super Woche verlebt, angefangen vom morgendlichen Espresso zu viert auf der Terasse am oberen Schlafzimmer, mit dem Lied von Peter Cornelius:“Der Kaffee ist fertig!“! Mit Ausflügen nach Montepulciano, Siena, Arezzo, Assisi und Castelglion Fibocchi! Und dann das Highhlight mit der Einladung bei der Fattoria La Vialla bei Castelglion Fibocchi! Es war rundherum eine tolle Woche bei super Wetter! Wir konnten bis spät abends draussen sitzen und den herrlichen Garten, den Pool und den schönen Sitzplatz mit Grill genießen.
