My family and I left the house a full day before our planned checkout because we did not feel comfortable remaining there another night. When we first arrived at 4:00 pm, the maid was still in the process of cleaning. While this wasn't a big issue, it was slightly concerning to have someone else in the home when we were supposed to be able to check in.
Once the maid left, we were able to get ourselves acquainted with the property and we were unfortunately very disappointed. The backyard was unkempt and the house was dirty. There were cobwebs in the corners of the downstairs bathroom, the blinds were incredibly dusty, the dishes did not appear to be adequately cleaned, the toys were dusty/dirty and the showers looked unclean. We could have likely overlooked many of these issues... until we turned the lights off to go to sleep and saw several cockroaches (~4-5) in the bedroom. The next morning, we saw another cockroach in the kitchen. Based on our observations and this experience, we were not comfortable staying at the house for another night.
On a positive note, the home is a great gathering space and we appreciated the towels, ample entertainment (TVs, air hockey table, toys, etc...), and the pool space. We wrote the above to the owner and she replied with the following:
"Thank you for the feedback. We do pay an exterminator but back up to the green belt so with the recent rains I suspect it may be driving the water bugs in the house. We will get it restated right away! We will also send in the deep cleaning crew to dust all from top to bottom."
