Beautiful view of the river right from the huge windows in the kitchen. The view from the front porch is nice. Iâm glad we were in the upstairs apartment. The furnishings were perfect for the style of the house. The family downstairs stairs were very sweet.
Near the top of the town, close to restaurants and shopping. Tenants live downstairs and were quiet most of the time; sometimes we could hear them talking, but that's to be expected in an old Victorian, and that means they could hear us.
We have only one complaint: when walking from the parking area to the back stair entrance to the apartment, one needs to walk across the back lawn, and the flagstones that could be used are half-buried and not flat in the lawn, which has ruts and holes that one has to be very careful not to twist an ankle on.
It was a quiet peaceful stay⊠didnât like that bedsheets and pillows were a little worn and smelled like it was just used by someone else and not washed. It was just a place where we slept and showered.
The property could have been a little cleaner. Dog poop in the yard and cobwebs up high (we do understand they are in hard to reach places) and on the patio. We did find a big spider in the house. It was a great location and a fun old house in a quiet neighborhood. We would stay here again for sure.
Pros: Rented for 2 days to explore Astoria. A charming Victorian house, w/ ample bathrooms, nice kitchen, & great view of Columbia river fr kitchen. Eat breakfast & watch ships. Kitchen was adequately stocked with spices & coffee (no decaf). Rooms are so pretty, felt like a fairy princess. Lights on canopy bed would not work, bummer, because they were beautiful.
Cons: Lots of stairs, very difficult. Black berry bushes overgrown stair landing & caused more than one bleeder. Walkway & stairs to parking were broken, wobbly situation. Lots of mole damage in grass area, hard to navigate w/ heavy luggage. 1 bathroom in middle of remodel, no disclosure in listing. Light bulb above sink was not working. This place has 3 bathrooms & one attached to canopy room was in the middle of remodel, so my friend had to trapse thru house in towels when showering, a bit awkward as the 3rd bathroom is thru kitchen, which has large windows & no coverings. Main flat where you will stay is middle floor, balcony is accessible thru narrow stairwell down to 1st floor shares with private residence, awkward, door & walls are thin. We did not use balcony - chairs on are not comfortable.
Kitchen chairs uncomfortable impossible to do computer work. No shades on kitchen windows, & only one could barley open for fresh air. Balcony is shared with private tenant & that seemed weird to be out there next to their living room, when they have their front door open, consequently we didnât use it at all.
The Painted Lady earned her name for the vivid blue exterior which stands out in a quiet NE neighborhood overlooking historic Astoria and the Columbia River. The second story apartment has high ceilings, multiple tall windows and a Victorian ambiance. The kitchen and is a wonderful place to gather around the dining table for good food, conversation and views of the marine traffic below. Except for the dim bedside reading lights, it was perfect. Come prepared with food and drink because the closest grocery stores and restaurants are a minimum of a 10-minute walk away.
Great location just a few blocks from the Goonies house in Astoria - perfect place for a fan to stay! Beautiful property, perfectly situated near grocery store, nature trail, places of interest yet still quiet and peaceful.
House was extremely clean and well-organized. Everything we needed was on hand and easy to find. Communication was great and the check-in and check-out processes were very simple. The house was in a quiet location but just a few blocks off the main drag, easily accessible to restaurants and shops. And the best part was the sea lion lullabies! Those suckers are LOUD. Would definitely stay there again!
Pros: The historic painted lady is adorable, and has a lovely river view and lots of sea lion sounds. Communication and self check-in were easy to follow. We were able to bring our small dog, and there were thoughtful touches for her, like doggy towels and poo bags, as well as food and water bowls. The cleanliness was very good in the more important areas: bathrooms, kitchen, bedding, towels. The neighborhood was quiet.
Cons: There are a lot of tchockies and fabrics throughout that are quite outdated and dusty, and there is a fairly heavy chemical cleanser/scent, so we had to keep the windows open to avoid headaches. We were also so disappointed that the clawfoot tub was not available for use, as this was a selling point for us. The main drawback was the beds; the mattresses are way too firm and broken down. I resorted to sleeping curled up on the couch 2 nights, just to avoid a trip to the chiropractor.
For me, the cons outweighed the pros, so I will stay elsewhere on my next visit to Astoria.
Our first time in Astoria, OR. What a charming city. The house was very comfortable and well supplied. The location was perfect! We will definitely be visiting again in the future.
As a group of six adults, we really enjoyed the location, the views, the ease to get to various locations nearby on foot... The house was a little tight with six adults, as two had to stay on the fold out couch in the common area, and we did not really have a spot to enjoy the outdoors since the yard is for the long-term tenant. That would be my only wish/suggestion is to have outdoor space to be able to hang out and spread out. Overall the stay was great! There's more than enough space for four adults! Plenty of bathrooms!
"She is a beautiful painted Lady!"
We loved every quaint room!
So excited to read this old girl is having a new exterior paint job this May! 2022. Looking forward to the 3rd bath shower fine' as well. Seeking quiet and found it! Cheers, the Millard clan
This property was just right for 2 couples for a weekend. Both cozy and functional. Kitchen is well appointed and bright. And a lovely view of the Columbia!
Fantastic location, beautiful views. Lots of stairs. We came during an unusual snow storm and both the walkway and steps to the porch were treacherously icy. No shovel or ice melt available. We went and looked to purchase ourselves and none to be found! Fortunately, it all melted off by the last full day we were there. We had an AWD drive car, which was quite helpful and definitely recommended in the snow on the hills in the neighborhood. The snow was beautiful, but made everything a bit harder, especially without access to a shovel/ice melt.
House was as expected, comfortable enough for us! We loved the view! It was quite chilly in the house when we arrived, but it warmed up quickly and was nice and cozy! Excellent shower pressure! House was very clean. Some of the outlets didn't appear to work.
They were very accommodating to us when we asked to allow my 65+ yr old parents to be able to visit us during the day (since covid numbers were high again), exceeding our allowed guest count. We really appreciated that last minute accommodation!
Overall, great visit, thank you!
The Painted Lady is a quaint and quiet place to stay in Astoria. The owners are very helpful and accommodating. We we had last minute guest shifts that were easily and pleasantly addressed. Ultimately we were only 3 staying in the unit and felt that any more would have been overcrowded. The steps up to the unit are very steep and we couldn't find an outside light for illumination. Altho there are 3 beds, the third is a sofa bed, in the living room, and the one sleeping there either sets the bedtime for the group or is at the mercy of any night owls! If you are in Astoria for its charm and history, this could be a great little place to stay; for us it was perfectly adequate.
Very lovely place to stay in Astoria. Would stay at again. It has character. Lots of steep stairs to get to floor. Each bedroom has it's own bathroom with third bathroom off dining room area. Great view from dining room.
