I came across Château de Théoule on social media and was eager to book after seeing glowing influencer posts. Sadly, the reality doesn’t live up to the curated online image. It feels like more money has been spent on influencer marketing than on refining the property itself. While the hotel is part of the Leading Hotels of the World, it doesn’t meet the usual standards — though it’s hard to say exactly why. It just feels small and unfinished.
The pool area is small, and the sun loungers lack the luxury dolce vita vibe portrayed online. The private beach is nice, but loungers cost extra — with different prices depending on how close to the sea you are. The woman who checked us in seemed completely disengaged, which didn’t create a welcoming first impression.
Our room was spacious and clean, with lovely sea views, but the curtains were thin and let in a lot of light — my mother couldn’t sleep once the sun was up. The gym was also disappointing, with dated equipment and a wobbly cross trainer.
On the plus side, the location is great — right on the beach, with a bakery across the street, a small supermarket nearby, and good restaurants within walking distance. Overall, the hotel has potential but a lot of work to do if it hopes to live up to the luxury branding it promotes.
