Our room was very tired and shabby with efforts made to modernise but not done sympathetically with the beautiful building. The bed didn’t fit the space of the headboard and had a gap between it and the wall that the pillows drop down. Also 2 beds joined together which is uncomfortable with a ridge down the middle, a straight forward double bed would solve all of those issues.
Our room was directly above the lobby and unfortunately we were woken before 6am both mornings by the staff moving furniture and having loud conversations.
Breakfast was poor quality with cheap cash and carry eggs, bread, juice and sausage, we didn’t feel it was value for money.
The staff were very friendly and the spa made up for the overall tiredness of the decor but it would be nice to see a modern but traditional refurbishment of the hotel annd perhaps more local sourcing of produce and we would happily return.
