This 6-bedroom, 6.5-bath house at Sonoma Resort spreads 3,451 square feet over two floors, and it was put together for the part of the trip nobody plans: the hours between the parks. All six bedrooms have a private bathroom and a TV, so fourteen people share a house without ever sharing a shower, and the three king rooms are each finished differently, one with a mirrored closet wall, one under a tray ceiling with a chandelier, one with a gallery of framed mirrors above the headboard. Three other rooms are themed, and the children will claim theirs before the suitcases are open. Downstairs, the garage was turned into a game room; upstairs, a movie lounge with blackout curtains is where the day ends. The screened pool looks out over a pond rather than another house, which is why the afternoons out there stay quiet, and the covered lanai seats eight when you would rather eat outside than drive anywhere.

Sonoma Resort is a residential vacation community in Kissimmee, Florida, quiet enough that children ride bikes on the sidewalks in the late afternoon. The house sits on the edge of the community, with a pond and a wide stretch of lawn behind it instead of a neighboring backyard. The clubhouse, community pool, fitness center and sport courts are within the community itself. Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, golf courses, restaurants and shopping are all a short drive away, and the area around the resort is well served by supermarkets and everyday errands.
A rental car is the practical way to move around: the parks, outlets and supermarkets are all a short drive from the community. Parking is free in the private driveway in front of the house. Vehicles left on the street, on the grass or blocking the sidewalk can be towed, and there is no overnight parking on the road; the clubhouse lot can be used during the day on a first-come basis. Rideshare services operate throughout the area for guests who prefer not to drive.
