We are so excited to share this beautiful and historically significant property, located right on the sandy beaches of Nyborg, 3rd cleanest in all of Denmark, (this city used to be the capital of Denmark). Nyborg is in the middle of Denmark on the island of Fyn (first city over the big bridge connecting Sjælland and Fyn), about an hour and 20 minutes from Copenhagen by car or train and approximately 2 hours by car from Germany’s northern border to Denmark. It is very conveniently located about 20 minutes by train to Odense and an hour and a half to LegoLand. Nyborg’s indoor water park and local swimming pool is just down the street complete with a gym, sports center, tennis courts, and much more should the weather not be ideal. It is also right next to one of Denmark’s most beautifully located golf courses. Of course, the darling center of town has plenty of shops for food, restaurants, movie theater, clothing, gifts and a castle that is being restored to its original splendor. In the Summer, right out the door is a little ice cream boutique where you can get a daily dose of ice cream to cool yourself down. You can also walk in the woods and on the many beaches Nyborg has to offer. Renting a bike is also a possibility. The fishing waters south of Nyborg are some of the best places to fish in Denmark.
We are located right near 2 separate well known fishing locations. For fishermen, we can accommodate you with a safe storage area for your fishing equipment, a table to cut and filet the fish as well as a deep freezer with heavy duty bags to mark and store your catches. Flounder and trout are the main fish to catch here and there are also cod expedition boats leaving from the city of Nyborg and some neighboring cities as well. If you wish to use our fishing facilities please let us know in advance.
A little bit of history on this charming beach house: it was built in 1930 where it was first a restaurant. The other building followed shortly after built originally as a huge restaurant and ballroom for dancing. It used to be a party location with a grand ballroom where people would host all sorts of events. There was even a little train station named Skaerven where people would come directly to the property to bathe on the beach and enjoy the evening with dinner and dancing. The next owners were the diabetes association and they converted it to a vacation place for children with diabetes where they would learn how to eat and give themselves insulin. The next owners bought the property in 1999 and converted part of the restaurant into 3 beautiful 2 bedroom apartments. Many famous Danes have stayed here renting the property because if its history and amazing location. We just opened it again July 2019 and hope to restore it to its old splendor!
About us, I am an American (classically trained opera singer) married to a Danish man (business entrepreneur) with 3 great Danish/American teenage kids. We lived in the US together for 7 years before we moved to Denmark 10 years ago. I ran a B&B out of my home for about 6 years before we decided to purchase this dream property. This is a completely family run business so you will see us often painting and keeping up with the property.
For me, giving that extra bit of service is in my blood. We supply all the towels, and linens in the house so you don’t need to feel like you have to bring your whole house with you and you do not have to pay extra for that unless you ruin something. We also supply shampoo, conditioner and body soap if you don’t want to use your own. We also supply kitchen dishrags, toilet paper, dish soap, tabs, salt and fluid to keep the glasses clean without streaks. We will thoroughly clean the house before and after you leave so check in will be around 4pm and check out will be 10am. The cleaning fee is incorporated into the price but if you leave us an extraordinary mess to clean up, we will deduct a bit from your security deposit depending on the amount of time it takes to clean it all up. We are busy so the less we have to clean in between guests, the more grateful we will be. We will check the meter with you as you come and go and will deduct that fee from your deposit should you have consumed more than the average electricity consumption. We will inform you what that will be (if anything at all) upon checkout so there will be no surprises. We do expect that you will not leave heaters or fans on when you are not home as electric and gas expenses here in Denmark are extremely expensive. Please keep in mind that smoking here is prohibited. The beach is one minute away, so it is easy to smoke off the property should you wish to do that and please throw your cigarette butts into a trash receptacle when you are finished. Skaerven is located right on the beach with a little garden and park benches where you can eat with your family. The beach is sandy, shallow and clean so it is safe for the littlest members of your family. There are all sorts of activities available on the beach and if the weather isn't the best, there is an indoor water park and sports/fitness center just down the street. There is also a little playground closeby on the beach that the kids can play at.
Please be aware we are close to the motorway so it is easy to get here and we have incredible views of the bridge, but it also means there can be a little noise from traffic. Most people don’t have any issues with the traffic sounds whatsoever because the wind carries it away, but if you are very sensitive to noise, or want a secluded, silent getaway, it could be potentially be an issue for you.
Built in 1930/33 this is a historic location. It is a beloved landmark in Nyborg.
The yellow cottage is located on 2 floors and also has a basement where you can do the laundry. There is a washer and dryer that sometimes we will be sharing with you when the apartments need to be cleaned. The house has 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and another with 2 single beds downstairs. There are 2 living spaces one on the ground floor and one on the first floor, and there is an extra bed for a 5th guest in the upstairs living area should you need it. Upstairs there is a television where you can stream the internet. We have free wifi and Chromecast where you can use the internet to watch television. Please be aware we do not offer a separate television package.
