Overall, we had a great time staying here. It was our first time in the OBX and we couldn't have asked for a better location. While it's not all that close to the beach itself, the house is near the OBX sound, offering beautiful sunset water views and quiet bike paths.
The positives:
- The house appears to be a new build and is beautifully furnished and decorated.
- The property was spacious, accommodating our whole family comfortably.
- The pool and hot tub were great. If the weather had been better during our trip, we'd have probably used them more.
- The front deck was great. Comfortable seating - perfect for morning coffee or evening wine!
- The elevator was nice for transporting luggage and groceries.
- The top floor living space was expansive and comfortable.
- The beds were comfortable and spacious.
- The showers and bathrooms were modern, sleek, and very nice.
- The kitchen was incredible - beautiful and containing every appliance and utensil you'd ever need. A dream kitchen!
The negatives:
- The pool alarm. Easily the single worst thing about the house and the reason this isn't a 5-star review. For general "safety reasons," there is an alarm on the door leading to the pool. Every time you open the door, the alarm shrieks, disturbing the whole house. You can momentarily silence the alarm from the inside of the house before opening the door, however there's no way to silence it upon re-entry, meaning every time someone comes back inside the house, the alarm goes off. No morning swim time without waking up the whole house.
- Moreover, the pool alarm was on the fritz during our stay, due to a faulty battery, so it would periodically chirp during the middle of the night for no reason. This happened two nights in a row during our stay. The second night we didn't get to sleep until 2 am. This very nearly ruined the trip. The pool alarm is a nice idea (in theory), but should be deactivated upon request by the guest, if everyone in the party is an adult. A serviceman from Resort Realty eventually just removed the battery for us, and that was that.
- The house only has a single-cup Keurig coffee maker. This is nice for single folks living on their own, but not adequate for whole families who just want a cup of coffee without waiting for a percolator to brew.
- The main mounted TV didn't come out from the wall, so hooking up an HDMI cable to our Apple TV proved difficult.
- The sink stopper in each bathroom wouldn't open to drain.
