Bantham really is a gem of a village. Located in the South Hams area of outstanding natural beauty. Beautiful Bantham beach is lovingly described as a tiny jewel along this stretch of stunning coastline. The sapphire blue sea and golden sands make this an unforgettable holiday destination. The waves attract surfers from all around the world but if you prefer a more relaxing stint on the water, Bantham Surf Academy will helpfully provide you with paddleboards, kayaks, wetsuits and all the information you need. Instructors are available to take you out in groups or one-one sessions if you fancy some extra tuition.
Just minutes from here is the pretty harbour, where you can while away the hours crabbing, sailing or just watching the boats go by.
The Gastrobuses are a regular summer feature on the beach. Gourmet burgers, Devon ice-cream and amazing sandwiches are readily available all through the summer. Throw in some regular pizza nights with some live music and you’ve got yourself the perfect evening.
If walking is more your thing, The South West Coast Path runs right past Bantham - A ferry is available to take you across the River Avon (Not available all year round) and nature lovers may just glimpse Kingfishers, Housemartins and Guillemots in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Look towards the shoreline and occasionally they’ll be a shy seal or even a playful dolphin among the rocks.
The village itself is host to a fantastic pub/restaurant - The Sloop Inn. Here you can find delicious freshly cooked meals, an ever changing selection of creative daily specials using some of the freshest fish, meat and game and the finest local produce Devon has to offer. Head up to the village shop which stocks a great range of groceries, newspapers, freshly baked bread and pastries, as well as all your holiday essential including wetsuits, bodyboards and buckets & spades. Its beautiful terrace cafe produces a spectacular Devon Cream Tea which you can sample whilst overlooking the estuary and debating the age old question; Jam or Cream first?
One bedroom is currently kept locked and private for the use of the property owner
As you ascend from the driveway into the welcoming ground floor entrance hall, you are met with ample coat-hanging space and shoe storage.
Entering into the main hall, the stairs ascend to the living space and a long airy hallway to the left. The cosy nook to the right of the entrance hall invites you to unwind on its optional comfortable sofa bed (suitable for one extra guest if required), surrounded by cultural art, an eclectic bookcase filled with intriguing books and entertaining games. A Smart TV with Freeview offers endless entertainment options on those slower, more relaxed days.
Further along the hallway, to the left a shower room and toilet can be found tucked under the staircase. To the right, the hallway dashes off to the bedrooms. At the end of the hall, the family bathroom, a sanctuary featuring a handheld shower over a luxurious bath, a pristine basin, a heated towel rail to wrap yourself in warmth, and a convenient WC is found. Two elegantly spacious and bright double bedrooms are on opposite sides of the bathroom. Each room is adorned with a luxurious king-sized bed, alongside a thoughtfully crafted hanging rail and a charming chest of drawers, ensuring your stay is both comfortable and stylish.
At the far end of the ground floor is the rear property entrance which leads out onto the patio garden where you can enjoy the exhilarating experience of a hot outdoor shower under the open sky or bird watch while enjoying your favourite tipple sat at the patio table.
Back indoors, climb the staircase to discover the chic open-plan living space on the first floor. This area is a harmonious blend of comfort and style, featuring a lounge equipped with a state-of-the-art Sonos music system, a wall-mounted Smart TV, plush sofas, and occasional chair for your leisure. An additional cloakroom (wc) is conveniently found at the top of the stairs.
The well-appointed kitchen is a culinary delight, offering a large American-style fridge freezer, electric induction hob and oven, dishwasher, and a breakfast bar. The dining table seats six, providing a picturesque backdrop of the estuary's stunning vistas, perfect for sharing meals and creating memories.
A magnificent glazed sunroom, poised above the garden, offers breathtaking views of Burgh Island and the estuary. A single step leads onto a beautiful balcony, a serene spot to savour the tranquil water views on the vintage-style bistro set.
There is convenient parking for two cars, one at the rear and one at the front of the house
There are lots of great walks close by, along coastal paths towards Thurlestone, Hope Cove and Salcombe, or across the river towards Bigbury and the Erme. If you want to venture further afield a car is pretty essential, Kingsbridge and Salcombe are only a few miles away and the ancient town of Totnes just slightly further. Woodlands Adventure Theme Park, South Devon Chilli Farm and Kent’s Cavern are all nearby days out, particularly good for little ones. And if you fancy a change from the coast, you can head inland to stunning Dartmoor National Park with it’s magnificent Tors and wild ponies, only a short drive away.
On initial arrival the key safe and property access is at the rear of the property via the farm track which is on the right hand side one door down from Petrichor, the rear parking space is a short way along on the right with an unlocked chain across it (next to the rear of Bantham Stores) and a path leads up from there to the back gate where the key safe is located on the gate post
Pertichor is a reverse- level property with the bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs and the living area, kitchen, and a WC upstairs
If you require the use of the sofa bed during your stay please let us know at time of booking so the extra bedding can be left out ready for your arrival
