Bankfield converted coach house: Self-catering cottage at the back of one of the 'Villas of Edgerton', a prestigious conservation area of Huddersfield Victorian Heritage. On A629, 1 mile to town centre & railway station, 1 to hospital (HRI), 2 to M62. Set back from road, surprisingly quiet. Private gated parking. Original features quirkily preserved. Spacious rooms: kitchen-diner, sitting-room, bedroom, bathroom. Work from home or relax in simply furnished, well equipped, charming environment.
The coach house is a stone-built detached outbuilding for the main house, both built in 1864.
The stable space is now a SITTING-ROOM, with flagstones, cobbles and troughs re-laid over a new solid base floor. The display units are built into the old 'chutes' for the hay falling from the loft to the horse-mangers. The wood-panelling was reproduced from the original. The original Jacob's ladder formerly used to access the loft remains in place but, obviously, is no longer in use.
The coach room has been turned into a KITCHEN-DINER, with original flagstones similarly re-laid. The original chimney stack has gone, but the chimney breast remains a distinctive feature.
The height of the room allowed for a gallery to be created at the top of the new stairs, where a WORKSPACE has been set up, overlooking the lower level.
2 more steps lead to the DOUBLE BEDROOM on one side, with the original hay loft round window. The double doors formerly used to load the hay from the courtyard have been replaced with glazed ones opening to a Juliet balcony.
On the other side is the BATHROOM, which can also be accessed direct from the bedroom without any steps. It gets plenty of natural light from 2 rooflights, and offers a shower-bath, washbasin and toilet. The top of the hay-chutes form interesting stone 'niches'.
The coach house is entirely independent for the use of guests. The courtyard is shared with the owners, who only use it occasionally, and can be used to sit or eat al fresco.
Parking space for 1 car (2 cars possible on request) in the gated courtyard, just in front or by he side of the coach house.
I normally hand over keys and gate remote controls personally on arrival. A key safe is available when required, for late arrivals for instance.
I normally meet the guests on arrival. I hand over keys and gate remote controls, and show them rapidly around the property to help them settle in. A key safe is available when required, for late arrivals for instance.
Other than courtesy texts as required during the stay, especially for occasional arrangements during long stays, I rarely interact with guests. But I always respond to inquiries, and am available to sort out problems if any.
Herbs and other plants grow in large pots along the front of the coach house to catch the sunshine. Guests are welcome to use herbs for their own cooking.
Because of the layout, building materials, and some features, the coach house is NOT suitable for infants or children.
