The building housing the 4 1/2-bedroom apartment is in the historic center of Berlingen. The village, with a population of about 850, is situated on the picturesque Untersee—the southern Swiss shore of Lake Constance—and lies between Steckborn and Kreuzlingen/Konstanz. Across the lake lies the island of Reichenau. - These locations can be reached in 5–15 minutes. The town’s historic streetscape and inviting walking paths give it its special charm. Wine lovers will find fine Berlinger wines here. The town has a well-developed infrastructure, including a train station, a harbor, a bakery, a butcher shop, and several restaurants—all within easy walking distance—and offers a full range of water sports, including a school and rental services. The panoramic view is accessible via one of the many hiking trails; there are also numerous bike and skating paths. Berlingen has good transportation connections by boat, train, or car to the neighboring cities of Schaffhausen, Stein am Rhein, Winterthur, Zurich, Konstanz, Kreuzlingen, and St. Gallen, as well as to the natural, cultural, and artistic treasures of historical significance in the Swiss and German regions of Lake Constance. The newly built golf course is located on the Seerücken and can be reached in about 10 minutes.
A bakery, a butcher shop stocked with all basic groceries, four restaurants, and a café are among the village’s amenities. From Berlingen, scheduled trains run to Kreuzlingen / Konstanz and Stein am Rhein / Schaffhausen. From the harbor, boats depart for Kreuzlingen / Konstanz on the Rhine, from which the entire Lake Constance is accessible. The waterfront, a lawn with table tennis and a playground form the center of the village along with the church.
Bronze Age settlements, the early Romanesque churches on Reichenau Island, the profusion of flowers on Mainau, the thundering Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen, the still-intact historic town of Stein am Rhein with its old painted facades, Hermann Hesse’s home and workplace on the Hori Peninsula, the inland amusement park Conny, or the wide range of museums and cultural events in Konstanz—the Lake Constance region holds countless treasures that are easily accessible from Berlingen.
