'Fantastic hotel. Everything was clean , and well maintained. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The hotel shows it age, but they do a great job keeping everything up to date. Breakfast was your traditional continental breakfast, but tasted great and fresh. The pool was warm and I enjoyed that they keep it open until 10pm. I was able to take a quick dip after dinner. The pool is a heated as well.'

'Seems like it would be a nice enough place to stay with the family for a vacation getaway right on a lake. However, we were traveling across I-80 and just needed a place to stay overnight. This was a ways off the highway, so it required some extra driving to get there. The room was okay. It's an old motel that has been renovated but still seems a little tired.'

'First and foremost Split Rock did not make me aware that we were staying separately from the actual hotel. This may have been a blessing because the hotel seems like its falling apart. 'This was, I think, the creepiest place I've ever stayed. I do have to mention that the woman at the front desk was absolutely lovely--but she was the only good part of my stay. There were a couple of the tiny roaches in my shower both times I showered (I had to stay two nights). My door looked like it had been mangled in a knife fight. The hallway looked, no joke, very much like the hallway in The Shining. I felt safe enough, like physically, once I had locked the doors-- but it felt very dirty...

'Average motel room, clean but old and small. Staff very friendly and always available to help but housekeeping is on demand only. We stayed for a week and have to go to front desk to ask for housekeeping to obtain clean towels and sundries every third day when we see nobody coming to make room. 'The staff was absolutely fantastic.But the cleaning of the room failed.Out of the 4 days we stayed the room was supposedly clean 2 times,and all they did was pick up the trash and change the towels and do the beds.The bed sheets were never changed.I know this because one had a stain and it was never changed.Also the whole place needs a lot of upgrades.'

'What I do like: Easy check-in, stuff is friendly, the place is clean and well-maintained. What I don’t like: Very bad soundproofing in the room, loud squeaks from the room above you when a person just walks there. Pretty damn restriction my 14-year-old boy faced when he was trying to take a breakfast alone: he can’t have a breakfast without a guardian until he is 18! Seriously? He can’t do it in McDonald or anywhere else, but not here.'
