Very old hotel and spa! Outdated and not worth the price they charge. On top of it they charge 15€ for 1h of spa! Which is old as the street! Staff is not friendly at all! last time I stay here… there are enough options…

Rooms are too outdated to be competing in the current market. Barcelona has too many other hotels with a better product for the same prices. I wouldn’t recommend staying at Axel unless a renovation will take place. The atmosphere, the crowd and staff are the biggest plus points. Great location.

Het was de 2e keer dat ik in dit Axel hotel in was. Heb er gemengde gevoelens bij. Het is een mooi hotel op een mooi locatie. Het receptiepersoneel is vriendelijk Maar er zijn ook een minder sterke punten. De commerciële aanpak straalt er echt vanaf. In de hal staan masseurs die je willen ‘strikken’ voor een behandeling. Niet opdringerig, maar ze staan je wel op te wachten. De slaapkamer was ruim. Maar wel raar dat er voor twee personen, maar één stoel was. Verder was in de kamer de muziek van het dakterras 's avonds licht te horen. Mooie douche, maar het water liep wel de kamer in, door een constructiefoutje. Ronduit storend was dat de schoonmaaksters het bordje niet storen negeerden en dan toch aanklopten. Door werkzaamheden buiten was er ongeveer vier uur geen water. Dat werd mooi aangekondigd met een brief. Jammer dat ze niet even gratis een fles water beschikbaar stelden. Die kon je uiteraard wel duur uit de minibar nemen. De liften zijn nog steeds een zwak punt. De vorige keer zat ik zelfs in de lift opgesloten toen er een storing was, dat kan gebeuren, maar nu was er regelmatig een lift buiten gebruik en moest je te lang wachten. Het is een hetero-vriendelijk hotel, waar de homo's duidelijk in de minderheid zijn. Het bed was behoorlijk hard, maar dat is een persoonlijke voorkeur. Wat heel irritant was het gepiep van het bed. Naar mijn mening is de prijs en kwaliteitsverhouding niet overtuigend in evenwicht.

During you stay we had a regular maintenance of the Lift, they had 1 elevator out of order for few moments, however, was 2 other elevator working. Regarding the cut of water, this was a general cut on the area boy local goverment and the hotel that the hotel cannot control it. Our main goal is to make feel all customers comfortable and offer the best service, we will take some actions in regards to your comments in order to improve our service and we will be glad if you could offer us a second chance to show you that the hotel offers very good facilities and service standards. Cool hotel with a nice bar. My only complaint is the hot tub wasn’t hot and one night it was only half full so we couldn’t even use it. Staff was very friendly though.

A wonderful place to stay. Central to restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, buses, metro, etc. The amenities are fairly basic but it’s an old building so don’t expect a fancy ultra modern facility. The staff was amazing and friendly. The only complaints would be that ordering room service didn’t work for me. The extension never picked up even when having the front desk transfer me. I was trying to get breakfast brought up because I was busy packing on my last morning. Even the front desk gave up and asked to take my order, but he didn’t know the menu so that was pointless and a failure. That morning front desk person was probably the only staff member I came across that wasn’t pleasant. But overall, this was a great stay and I will be returning for sure.

Great hotel on the border of the old quarter, close to shopping, eating and transportation options. Quiet due to sealed/sound-proof windows, but enjoyed the balcony with window open, looking out onto the lane w/ all the city life. A treat! Highly recommended A

Great location and extremely walkable. Everything I had planned was in walking distance. The breakfast was very underwhelming. I paid extra to include breakfast and it was not good. I love the workout and the gym area was not the best. The machines were old and rusted.

This is a stylish property, very convenient location. An easy walk to the centre or to the Gothic Quarter. The Breakfast was buffet style and a massive choice, we had one of the better rooms with a two person balcony overlooking Barcelona. My initial impression was that the huge bed was too firm but this was not at all noticeable after the first night. This hotel initially gave the impression of being Gay centric, it does cater for this community but also for heterosexual. I thought the staff were great, especially Juliette, others too. Summary: Easy to get to from airport on the bus, great accommodation, excellent location, friendly staff, very good location for bars, restaurants and shops too.

Axel Hotel Barcelona missed the mark on several levels, but for location it was spot on. An easy walk to many cafes, bars and attractions. Metro was just a few blocks away and can get you around town, but bring hand sanitizer, likely where picked up a funk. As for the hotel itself. Staff were friendly, willingly got taxis and handled luggage. We included the extra cost for breakfast. Lots of selections, pastries and fruit very good. The scrambled eggs were ice cold as were the other items in the food warmers. I am talking not even the least bit warm. Room service was offered and explained in the literature and by the front desk. There was no such service, the phone rang off the hook every time we tried. We are not used to paying premium price and have to sit on the floor to sort through our luggage or put dirty luggage on the bed. On the second day I asked for two luggage racks and the desk told me housekeeping would bing them at the next day’s cleaning. We returned the next day to a clean room and no rack. I complained and finally the following day one rack appeared. I gave up on getting a second rack. The advertisement for this place shows a sleek pool and hot tub. The pool was like an ice plunge bath and the hot tub was no way near warm and you could not activate the jets. I only utilized the gym once, it was basic and that’s all that’s needed but rust all over the equipment. I wouldn’t call it a gay hotel there were many friendly heterosexuals.

Fantastic place and located in a wonderful walking district with excellent food options! Close to the metro and all the famous walking streets. Wi-Fi was a bit slow at times but otherwise, our stay was fantastic!

This is the second Axel property that I’ve stayed at in Barcelona. I stayed at the Axel Too Not too far away from this one. Both are really nice. Its location is right in the middle of everything and within walking distance to a lot of the bars. The staff was super helpful when checking in. Got a free upgrade which was really nice. Took advantage of the hot tub/sauna/steam room which was super relaxing and just what I needed after traveling the whole day. There’s even a rooftop bar with some entertainment. It was kind of slow that night I was there but it was convenient and they offer a free drink as a guest. The room was nice, with a city view from the balcony, and the little box with everything need that they give (shampoo, conditioner, lotion and body wash) is always a nice touch. Would definitely stay here again the next time I come through Barcelona.

Great hotel - central location
This is a great hotel in a central location with comfortable rooms. I’ve stayed in Axel hotels before and they are all of a good standard. Our room was compact but well kept and comfortable, with a decent bed and bathroom.

Very clean, bed was very comfortable, perfect area for touring, lots of close by restaurants and gay bars. Already planning to go back.

Great service and super friendly. Very inclusive
It was a really good choice. Staff was as friendly as it could be and also incredibly accommodating. Traveled with my mother which has mobility issues and staff was always perfect in making sure she was comfortable.
