5th Floor Condo w/ Views of Grandfather Mountain

This unique condo at Sugar Top will sleep 4 people with a King bed in the master bedroom and a Queen bed in the second. Blue hues and accents give this condo an elegant touch. A full kitchen, complimentary Wi-Fi and washer/dryer will be available to you inside the condo. Step out onto the private balcony and you will be surrounded by the expanse of Grandfather Mountain. This unit is located 1 door from the elevator. Take that down to the first floor and enjoy access to the indoor pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, public WiFi and weight room in the Lobby. Experience nature, hiking, mountain biking and more on the mountain and surrounding areas. Sugar Top has a shuttle system. Please be advised that the parking shuttle is run by SugarTop. Resort Real Estate and Rentals has no control over the shuttle system. Our Sugar Top Condos are Non-smoking. Absolutely NO PETS. No Check-in's Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day. All guests required to sign rental agreement upon booking.

The staff at the resort were very friendly. It was a great family place. The view of the mountains was incredible. The location was very close to anything you would like to do. The condo was perfect for our family of 4. I would recommend this resort to anyone. We greatly enjoyed our stay.

Unusual

The property itself is unusual and controversial. We were socked in the clouds for 3 days but it was kind of cool. The condo was nice and comfortable. There were several pillows that had lost their seams. I'd recommend minor updates there. The rental office was difficult to find after hours with typical GPS Apps. We spent an hour trying to find it and the actual property. You absolutely will have to use the shuttle to get to and from your vehicle during your stay. This place is 80's era condo luxury meets 2024 climate change oopsy daisies. Staff were lovely. And we found a hidden hot tub away from kiddos in the gym. A very cool, yet unusual experience.

Would not recommend due to parking/shuttle

The room itself is ok, and the views are great if weather allows; however, I would not recommend staying here unless you're up for 30 minutes or so each time you want to come to or from the hotel. If you aim to just stay in this this building the majority of the time, you're golden. Guests are not allowed to park on the resort and instead are sent to parking lots where Grouse Moor Dr & Sugar Top Dr meet. It's about .4 miles away. During check-ins or check out times, you'll see queues of 3-6 families and there really isn't a queue system so be prepared to hang out near outside in order to get in the shuttle. I can understand this listing doesn't "control" the shuttles, but failing to list the parking situation here seems slimy. We literally had our kids in the trunk area of the shuttle due to the limited space in the shuttle.Also, you will need a four-wheel drive vehicle or chains in order to ascend up to the resort during winter months. We were all set here, but many families struggled.Also, the main bedroom's mattress doubles as an anvil. Seriously the most firm mattress I have ever been on.Also, many amenities are currently not functioning (such as the saunas).Also, the resort rental agreement will get you tied into "Glad to Have you, Inc", "Resort Real Estate & Rentals", and "HomeAway" software. Prepare yourself for emails galore.

We enjoyed the condo, it needs to update appliances but overall was good. The shampoo dispenser was empty and microwave didn’t work. However it was replaced right away. The parking situation is terrible. Probably won’t stay there again because of that. Too much inconvenience. The condo was nice but not having parking available made it very fustrating.

Super fun property - it fit our family of 6 easily with room to spare. Accommodations were clean and comfortable. The views were amazing. We had a great time and would DEFINITELY return. The pool on site was great as well, shuttle services were convenient and there is tons to do for the adventuring type all around.

I recommend looking for other places to stay in Sugar Mountain.

They listing was inaccurate. They stated that the unit has a king size and a queen size bed. It had a king but didn’t have a queen. The other bed was a full size at best. The other couple staying with us said they were falling off the bed all night long. The king bed was very uncomfortable as well. You have to drop your car off in a parking lot then take a shuttle up to the hotel. If you have a lot of stuff to carry this is very inconvenient. The wifi did not work. The heat in the unit did not work either we had it set at 80 degrees, and still woke up freezing. Also the check in office is not at the motel. We drove all the way up to the motel just to be told we have to turn around, and go to the check in office a few miles away. Yes they tell you that in the email the send you, but it’s still very inconvenient. The only reason it got two stars instead of one is because the view is nice. I’d highly recommend finding somewhere else to stay in Sugar Mountain.

Great Condo

We loved everything about this property. It was quiet, balcony had amazing view and it was well maintained. Our only qualm was that it wasn't listed anywhere on the VRBO listing that you have to get the keys from the rental place BEFORE you go up to the condos. We got checked in at the front desk of the condominiums and found out that we had to go back down the mountain to the management place to get keys. It was annoying but after that, it was smooth sailing. We found out later that it was in the rental agreement that they send you. Minor inconvenience but just a heads up if you rent this place.

Excellent location and facilities at Sugar Top Resort

The unit was in great shape for us at check in. Not all the lights in the second bedroom worked., but all else was fine The only problem was as reported by an earlier guest, checking in on the weekend after hours was a problem for us. Since I had read that comment prior to arriving, I called just to be sure of the procedures as I would be checking in on a Saturday around 6 pm and was assured that there would be a package with the key at the reception. However, the person didn't make it clear to me that she meant the Realty sales office not the resort. The resort reception desk nor the security at the resort had no record of my arrival or information about the key. Fortunately, I learned from another resident that I needed to go back down the mountain to the sales office to pick up the key in a mail box as the office was closed . The owner later informed me that the after hours procedures are llisted in the rental agreement, which they are. So, I recommend to any future renters to reread the agreement prior to arrival.

Better than advertised

Everything was exactly as advertised in the description of the unit but what was not conveyed and was an added bonus was not only how clean and fresh everything in the unit was, but the extra nice tile work that was done to the unit and the custom cabinetry and woodwork added was a great touch. We have stayed in several different units in Sugar Top over the years and all have been nice, but this one was definitely the one with the added touches that make it a notch above.

Check in *very* time consuming; poor communication on the weekend

Accommodations were fine, but relatively overpriced. Management was unresponsive in dealing with an issue, which prompted me to leave early. The Good: Comprehensive array of cooking equipment. High visual perspective provides distant views. Good use of square footage, provides for very good social space. The Bad: Check-in procedure is time-consuming. It took about an hour, from arriving at the rental office to being in the room. Very limited loading-zone parking. There are 5 spots for loading/unloading at the building entrance, so arriving/departing guests must stand-by at gate-house. Guest parking is, I'm guessing, about 1000' from the building. Shuttles are available, which seemed about 50/50 for convenience compared to walking. While the distant views from the balcony were impressive, the wood and wood-furniture on the balcony needs maintenance. Management was unresponsive. I did not receive a WiFi password, at check-in. The management office is closed after 5pm and on weekends, which made it impossible to obtain the password during my scheduled stay. The person working the "after-hours" phone line seemed largely indifferent to this non-emergency. As Internet access was an important need for me, I departed Sugar Top the following morning. I was, later, told that they sent someone to confirm that the router worked; which, while good to know, wasn't the issue I called about.

Beutiful setting and Spcial Distancing

This condo was the perfect get away to the mountains. We could fix our own meals (during social distancing), could relax after hiking in the comfortable living area, enjoy the great beds, and sit on the porch and stare at the mountains. Resonably priced option for getting away, yet being safe. Heads up- entrance to Grandfather Mountain is only available by appointment just now, so plan ahead.
