Stephanie, Thank you for staying at Del Congos de Uvita. I’m sorry if you think it’s rude to not allow you to cancel your reservation the day before your arrival and refund your payment. Our cancellation policy is clear and the same as the other 50 rental houses in our development which are further from Uvita. Yes, August has been extremely rainy and your vehicle is not a true 4x4, our international community maintains the public roads and with a proper vehicle the road has no problems as confirmed by current guests today. We use the same cleaning company as the 5 Star $1,500 /night hotel input development does and they send me photos after each cleaning prior to guests arriving and it was exceptionally clean since it had an additional quarterly deep clean 2 days before you arrived. Again, I am sorry I was unable to refund your money !

Toya, We are so happy you stayed at Del Congos De Uvita. Our property is very unique in that less than 5% of properties are located in primary jungle and on 5.3 hectares! The privacy (can’t see or hear neighbors) is great for exotic bird watching and monkeys. So nice to hear you’ll be back!

Yes, the view is the best in all of the Uvita area! 90% of Costa Rica is steepMountain roads thus a full size 4 x 4 is always necessary. There is adequate water pressure for more than one shower at a time. Costa Rica is Paradise and we do spray for insects however it is important to not leave sweets out for the ants and to clean up after you eat. The house is at 2000 feet elevation and it can be quite cool at night (60-65 degrees). There are ceiling fans which are rarely used in every room. Larger individuals may need A/C thus it is provided in the Masters suite however it is rarely used. You will love the privacy and the opportunity to view more wildlife!

It’s my understanding that every owner is responsible to clean the house to COVID standards, collect a CR occupancy tax, charge either a damage deposit or property fee. I too wish I didn’t have to charge ,incur or pay these fees however I’m not willing to violate the law to make you happy. These are things outside your and my control .

Veronica, Thank you for staying at Del Congos De Uvita. Yes, I am very lucky to have found this untouched 13 1/2 acres of primary Jungle with the most exceptional views in all of the Pacific coast. Whether you’re coming to Uvita or anywhere else in Costa Rica I recommend a 4 x 4 for two reasons. The entire country is mountainous and he has steep gravel roads which only a few Americans who live in the mountains are familiar with. That is why we rent our turbo diesel Toyota Prado. I encourage my guests to rent The proper vehicle which can easily Negotiate any roads in Costa Rica. The road up the mountain takes 10 minutes but those Who are unfamiliar may choose to go much slower. We hope to see you back soon! Pura Vida Del

I’m so happy that you appreciated the extra touches that made your vacation so relaxing from the minute you walked off the plane. In an undeveloped country such as Costa Rica, the electrical grid has not been developed Adequately so there are many brown outs, power surges and outages . As a result, we go through five times as many lightbulbs as in the United States and that includes LEDs which I have never burnEd out in the United States. It’s a small cost to pay for the beauty that surrounds you. We just updated two new tri-band mesh routers For the Internet and I will update the password on the Website. We hope you come back soon!

Costa Rica is a Jungle adventure and eco-tourism is what people come here for. With that said, in my instructions I warn people to not leave out food or sweets that will attract ants. We built a home in paradise but the insects , animals and birds were there first and we need to respect their need to co-exist. We have a caretaker that lives in the grounds for security and maintenance issues to be resolved quickly, only about 5% of properties have this service available. We spend 16 hours cleaning to prepare the house to meet and exceed COVID standards. Yes, Costa Rican’s speak Spanish but understand some English.

Todd, Thank you for your kind words about Del Congos De Uvita! No one has our spectacular view (right over the whales tail national Park) and 50 miles of Oceanfront as well as private trails through the jungle. As for the road up, there are over 40 VRBO homes on our road and we have the closest lot to town in our development. The road is steep in a few places but well-maintained by our private road association. Some people choose to rent small AWD cars instead of the real 4 x 4 cars, mainly because of expense. Some accept responsibility for that decision and others blame it on the road. It clearly states the check out time on the VRBO website as 9 AM not 8 AM as stated. It takes two maids a total of 16 hours to prepare an immaculate house to COVID-19 standards. The renter mentioned we charge extra for A/C , however they never mentioned a need for a A/C nor does any one of our other reviews. Our elevation plus surrounding primary jungle naturally cools the house at night. Pura Vida

House is in a private development on a well maintained gravel (not dirt) road. Guests comment about maintenance had to do with a bedroom door lock that was sticky due to salty ocean breezes which has since been lubricated.

The primary jungle provides the habitat for up to 96 species of birds and a 50 mile view of the ocean and coastline. We also rent our seven passenger diesel powered SUV. We hope you return soon.

We are definitely unique in that there is significantly more bird viewing in primary jungle which is where I would choose to live if I were a bird! 99% of other homes are new growth jungle or in the open !We are also close enough to the ocean to hear the waves and feel the constant breeze. The huge trees provide shade and excellent nesting for birds like toucans, monkeys, cusingas, etc . The 13 1/2 acres provides the privacy you won’t find anywhere else. Thank you for staying at Del Congos de Uvita. The animals that live in the jungle must have sensed that you are a world famous veterinarian with many years of experience and wanted to greet you. I have been here for 17 years and have only seen a snake twice , I was told they run when confronted and avoid humans. Thank you for warning guests that there is potential of seeing a poisonous spider ( 90% are harmless) even though you didn’t see one. I understand you not wanting to drive up the mountain at night because now that I’m 66 I need more light to drive at night and our development doesn’t have street lights and one can expect steep unlit mountain gravel roads throughout Costa Rica. I always encourage our guests to learn some Spanish since you’re coming to a Spanish speaking country. Your daughter had a great advantage being fluent in both languages. As for your scam claim, it is documented at HomeAway that you were undercharged originally due to a HomeAway rate program change that failed to charge you properly for guests in excess of 2 personswhen you booked, that has since been rectified by HomeAway. I apologize for my Wisconsin administrative assistants oversight in not seeing my email to send my 9 Word Documents that help with planning but I was glad to arrange your last minute request for airport pickup and car rental which was the only reason for the need of a large sum of cash, due to the last minute request and no time to mail a check. Thank you for the 4 star review, I will do my best to please you if you decide to return again.

Nate Thanks for staying at Del Congos de Uvita. There must have been some confusion on “Required tip”! There is no such thing as required tip . We offer an option to have Estephany clean and do Laundry for $30/day only as requested, this is up to the guest. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Estephany services can also be requested as a chef on a per meal basis. Alex and Estephany live on the grounds in another house and are there 24/7 if any maintenance issue should arise.

From our house you can see the lights of the city but the privacy of the 14 acres means you see wildlife instead of neighbors! We have much more land and privacy than the other 25 houses in our international neighborhood. Yes, a 4x4 is necessary since we are on a mountain like the rest of Costa Rica. That’s what makes for the 50 mile oceanfront views. We are one of the few houses that have full time staff (live in another house)on site who maintain the house meticulously and can even cook meals for an additional charge.
