What a great house. We had our three children, three grandchildren, son-in-law and always had plenty of space for everyone. The canal and Kayaks were a wonderful feature. Group of friends had a great time at Kitchen’s Salt House in late March. We especially liked the fire pit out by the canal. Would gladly come back!

Fabulous location with lots to do

We loved our time in Kitty Hawk, the location is perfect for the beach and the kids loved hanging out at the bay. The trails are perfect for running and cycling and the house is really comfortable and well equipped to cook and relax in the evening. We had a fabulous vacation.

Peaceful property

It is a lovely home. We very much enjoyed our stay And the neighborhood is quite peaceful. The owners are helpful and responsive. We especially enjoyed the fire pit in the back. We will certainly consider this property again the next time we head down there.

Quiet, well appointed get away!

My family loves coming to stay at the Kitchen's Salt House! The house has plenty of room to spread out and areas where it's easy to spend time together. We love the amenities like kayaks and paddle boards, fire pit, outside games, and board games. So many ways to have fun together!The house is easy to access, clean, and has a kitchen with all of the equipment you would need. The hosts are easy to work with and helpful. We had a great visit and look forward to returning. Thank you!

Great Outer Banks stay

The Kitchen Salt House was a great place to stay for us while in the Outer Banks. Great location for all areas! Great fun fishing, kayaking and crabbing in the canal. Beautiful star light nights by the fire pit. Thanks!

Perfect vacation spot

This property was perfect for our big family vacation. We had three families including four kids under nine. The property was very spacious and allowed for each family to have their own space. There was also plenty of activities at the house to keep everyone entertained. Our family really enjoyed taking the kayaks out in the evenings.

Wonderful location

We had such a great week here! The kitchen is amazingly well stocked. Plenty of room to spread out for personal space and large enough gathering space to all be together. The sand yard next to the canal is a great place to fish, or just relax and enjoy hanging out with family. We loved the kayaks and paddle boards. Such a peaceful setting- less of a touristy area (which we loved) but still close enough to enjoy tourist type activities. There's a great little beach nearby with free parking. Would definitely recommend this home

Great place

We had a great stay. We loved the location, access to the canal for boating, open floor plan with windows, lots of comfortable beds, cool loft for kids, and beautiful kitchen. The only downside was that the house could have used a better deep cleaning - the bathrooms were a little mildewy, we found an empty liquor bottle under one of the bathroom sinks, and there were cobwebs here and there. Not a showstopper problem, though. We definitely recommend for other renters!

Location

Location was great, great beach access. Some problems with air conditioner but figured out the trick of shutting it off 4 hrs and can turn back on. It freezes. Not amused with bugs. Lots of space.

Great place, great neighborhood

We really enjoyed our stay at this home. It has almost everything you could need. Our extended family enjoyed hanging out in the great room and by the fire pit. There house us stocked with beach chairs, paddle boards and ocean kayaks, sand toys, corn hole, and in the kitchen there are seasonings you might not have brought from home. The beds are comfortable but the platform beds are low to the floor. We had fun with the games and puzzles. I went out on the paddle board a few times, the step-down at the pier was convenient for getting in and off the board. The drive to the beach was short and we never had and trouble finding parking. We would return.

Wonderful!

Kim and Eddy were top notch, communicative and maintain a great, spacious, super convenient home. The kitchen was a great working kitchen and well stocked. For the size of the house there was plenty of communal and private space. Situationally - Perfect! My college friends and I rent a beach house for a week. The week before, two of us come down early and are looking for an intermediary house, sort of a primer. We were able to easily enjoy the homeyness of the house and the access to the sound. Beach access is super easy and the sound is right there (did I already say that?). Pretty sure we’ll be contacting Eddy and Kimberly very soon about next year!

Fantastic Beachhouse

Fabulous house ! My husband has been bringing me to the beach (obx) since I had a cardiac arrest 7 years ago.This vacation with our three daughters and spouse plus 2 grandaughters was by far the best yet! So much to do at this house. We fished , kayaked, caught crabs and had enough for a boil . Just a relaxing not have to stress place .Just what we all have been needing .We ended ournight with a coue hands of UNO . We would definately love to come again .Best of everything all . We had brought spices and such but the home is absolutey prepared and ready for every need you may have while you can just enjoy .Thank you so very much for the use of your superb beachhouse! Fun beach house for big groups!

We stayed here with friends and extended family for a long weekend in OBX. Overall the house was great! Nice location close to lots of restaurants and great quiet little sound side location that was very convenient for launching the boat and kayaks. Loved that we could keep the boat tied up right to the dock at the house. The kitchen was well stocked with everything to cook. There’s a fun loft with twin beds and a TV with a Wii that looked so fun for a group of kids (we just had 1 child with us this time around). There were lots of thoughtful extras like beach parking passes, extra life jackets, bikes, etc. A couple of things that are not at all negative but just good to know for future visitors- there are lots of stairs so this may not be the best for older visitors (grandpa and grandma got pretty worn out by the end of our visit); the driveway is fairly narrow and steep so if you bring a boat you won’t be getting it down the driveway, we recommend dropping it at the marina before you even get in the house; and you need to bring or rent your own towels and bedsheets, as an FYI for those coming from farther out of town. Overall would recommend this house and location to anyone coming to OBX! We had a great stay!

Relaxing getaway for family!

The salt house was a fantastic place to stay for the week. Our party consisted of 4 adults, two young teens and two kids! The kitchen has everything you need, whether you want to bake, cook or steam seafood. There is a drip coffee machine as well as a Nespresso (original) machine! That was a huge plus to have Nespresso as an it would have been nice to have an air fryer, but that’s just nit picking because this house is awesome!!!During our stay, we saw a fawn and her mom, as well as a great blue heron catch breakfast!all while drinking our coffee on the backyard beach! A few lizards as well. We even saw a crab by the dock. We did not make time to fish unfortunately! Southern shores is a wonderful neighborhood and perfect for those who want easy and quiet time to spend with family or friends. As a note for guests who may not have experience in the southeast, you may see a bug or two during your stay on the property! There are fire ants in the sand, in case you have kids who may not be fans of bugs. It is to be expected down here!Also for parking, sadly my husband couldn’t make the trip, but I’m not sure his diesel GMC would have fit down the driveway, as my BIL also drove a truck down. 3 SUV/truck combo might make for Tetris parking! But overall amazing stay!! We truly appreciate the Kitchens opening their home to us!! I would come back again!

Perfect for our family vacation

Perfect for our family vacation. A good-sized house with just enough space. The house is well-equipped with everything you need. The kitchen was stocked with cookware and supplies, making it easy to prepare meals. The bedrooms were comfortable. Unfortunately, I missed the part about needing to bring our own bed sheets. For the most part, the house was clean and well-maintained, we did have several run-ins with cockroaches, but nothing terrible. One of the highlights that drew us to this beach house was the canal front. Kayaks and paddle boards were provided by the owner, and we had a lot of fun exploring the waterways. They had plenty of games to keep us occupied when we weren’t at the beach or paddling the canals. The location was perfect for us. A nice quiet community just off the main road as you enter the Outer Banks. This made getting in and out of the area very convenient. A short drive to the beach with dedicated parking. I really liked the fact that we never had to hunt for a parking space. The host was very responsive and accommodating. They were available to answer any questions we had during our stay. This beach house is perfect for families looking to relax and enjoy a stay at the Outer Banks. We had a great time and would consider staying here again. Highly recommend!

House was FANTASTIC, but not exactly handicap accessible

This house was beautiful! So clean, and one of the most well stocked houses I have ever stayed in. The owners were FABULOUS, and answered questions quickly, and offered great suggestions for our stay. The property was so serene on the water. We had an amazing week visiting with our friends. We had a minor hiccup with the accessibility. We picked this property b/c we have a person in our traveling party in a wheelchair. I checked the handicap accessible search tab, and this property was included. I was concerned with the stairs and sleeping arrangements, but figured it would be ok once we got there. For a wheelchair to get into the main level, you need a ramp that starts 1/2 way up a steep driveway. On the main level, to get to the bathroom and bedrooms, there is a lip that a wheelchair could not maneuver over The only standup shower that doesn’t have a tub attached, is on the bottom level, use of stairs is needed. Fortunately, the person in our party that needed this accessibility, was a child. It was tiresome on his parents to carry him up and down, but they made it work. If this accessibility was needed for a full grown adult, it would have been a much larger challenge to overcome. Overall, the house is fantastic! We really enjoyed our stay. If you need a true handicap assessable property, ask specific questions for your needs.

The home was very inviting and spacious. Overall cleanliness was great. The outside of the building could use a little TLC but not a game changer. The major challenge we faced was the wheelchair accessibility. We chose this home specifically for the accessibility. The access ramp was located mid ways up a rather steep driveway. Pushing a wheelchair up the driveway to the home or holding it back from rolling down the hill when going on an outing was extremely difficult and required great strength. The ramp was thin and had a 90 degree turn. The doorway was extremely tight for a bariatric wheelchair. The other option for wheelchair access was through the garage to a bedroom that would be apart from all family activities. There was not a bathroom that allowed a wheelchair. The walk in shower was thin and didn’t allow for a wheelchair either. The air conditioner cooled great but had a leak that flooded the garage if a bucket was not constantly emptied. Be sure to read all fine print as linens was listed one area and listed as not included in another. We luckily caught this the night before our arrival and was prepared.These were issues we managed through. Disappointing for us but this home is an excellent choice and highly recommended for a group that does not require wheelchair accessibility. This option should really be removed from the listing.
