The resort is beautiful and it is next to Xcaret, which we enjoyed a lot. The buffet was not great compared to other visits. The check-in experience was quite poor.. In general it felt this time like the staff was overworked and couldn't give the service quality they usually have.

The animal life on the resort is amazing. It is very jungle like. You will do a lot of walking. Does not have a typical beach oceanfront. Check in thru Expedia is sort of a pain

I would have given it 5 stars but I had the worst experience ever at the check in. I arrived at 1:10pm and got a room by 3:30pm. On top of that they gave me a king bed for 3 kids instead of the two beds I requested and their key system didn’t work to open them until 5:30pm. It took away valuable time. At the check in there was a very bad verbal fight between guests and employees due to the waiting time. It was traumatic. I am glad that my kids fall asleep in the waiting are and didn’t noticed all that happened. After that, everything was great. Management sent Champagne and strawberries with chocolates to both rooms to compensate for the inconvenience. The property is beautiful. All my family had such a great time, we love nature and you get to see monkeys and if you are lucky like my daughter a baby monkey will grab your hand. They have Flamingos, deers, and one of them (Bambi) is very friendly and let you pet him and will lick your hand or arm. They have Coatis and they aren’t that shy so you may also be lucky and get to interact with them. The plants are beautiful. They have some Mayan ruins and also rock formations next to the sea, what makes the property more attractive. Pools, activities. Their beach is closed by a barrier that won’t allow waves to hit you so it was actually perfect. The sea pool is like something out of a magazine. Just clean the river that goes through the main lobby and get a back up plan for busy days. It was a dream vacation. We’ll be back.

This was our second time at Occidental! And it was even better. Our flight was late, and shuttle was terrible, but the check in with Ruben was fantastic! Our cleaning lady Patricia for building 18 was also amazing! We had Wifi everywhere, the beach was fabulous, the weather was amazing, and the food tacos and pizza were amazing same with the Italian and oriental restaurant. I had suggestions on our last trip and would have to say that they more than full-filled them this time around. They had doors on washrooms, the bedding was amazing, the channels for the TV during bed time were great! The pools were fantastic, love the adult pool! Even the events and night shows were an upgrade - only thing, is to get an MC that speaks better english! But otherwise, fantastic job and hotel! I may have to come back in another 5 years!! Gracias, we miss you already Mexico!!

Pros: Convenience to Xcaret park. Onsite free parking. Wait staff was great! Cons: HEAVY on the time share sales to the point of harassment! Our “VIP” Expedia check in took forever since they one have one person checking people in. Our friends genwral check in took 5 minutes! The grounds need attention and shows a lot of wear and tear. Very dated rooms. A lot of the bathrooms needed paper towels throughout our stay. Food is mediocre. Everything in stores is SUPER expensive. Will not stay there again.

The property is big/gorgeous. It is nestled in the jungle and has a very nice calm bay for a beach area. The check-in at the main lobby(not a private vip check-in) was okay, not the best as the reception is not very attentive. There could be 6 of them standing around doing w.e and you just stand there to wait for one to acknowledge you (they try not to make eye contact) It should be common courtesy to say "Hi, one moment please and we will be right with you" but no, they just ignore you until you ask or they are finally available.. This happened a couple of times we went to the main lobby reception for help. The rest of the property staff is very gracious and friendly. From the bellboys/ladies, pool staff, restaurant staff, bar staff, entertainment staff, housekeeping, gardeners(for coconuts), pro dive tour operators, and even the concierge/timeshare, everyone else was very friendly. Just the main lobby reception was lacking!... As for the VIP lounge, we werent able to reach the rep for a couple days as we missed each other, but when we did see Valeria she was very friendly! She allowed us to reserve all of the dinner reservations at once also. You can dine at the beach restaurant for breakfast and dinner buffet which is great just for the view. Food itself was as others stated a hit or miss, but we enjoyed the atmosphere nonetheless and it made up for it. Recommend doing tour (Tulum, cenote, snorkeling) with pro dive Dorian by beach restaurant. Tip them, they deserve it!

We love Occidental at Xcaret because we love seeing wildlife when we travel. We also love seeing ruins and learning about the early history. The resort is beautiful, the staff friendly and helpful and there are plenty of food choices. We are vegan, so enjoy the many vegetables, fruits, beans and grains available. We also loved snorkeling in the circular stone ocean inlet. So many fish, corals, anemones in a protected area.

Occidental at Xcaret is a beautiful accommodation right in the heart of the jungle along the Caribbean Sea with amazing views of a variety of different animal species and access to an ocean fed cove full of sea life. There are lots of great excursion options in the area and Xcaret Park is within walking distance of the resort as well (This place is incredible and I would highly recommend visiting). We found the staff to be very friendly, and the rooms to be clean. However, we opted into the VIP program and we were not satisfied with this particular service. Our fridge was not stocked every day, and we didn’t get top ups on coffee either. As this resort is very spread out, we found walking in the extreme heat to be taxing without proper transportation options (it is a long walk to the beach). Being able to book restaurants was difficult as this resort doesn’t have a website or app feature and finding someone to assist without making the trek to the lobby was an adventure in itself. The food was very average and the overall customer service throughout this trip could use some improvement. We were not properly welcomed on arrival, and we had to figure out the rules and the resort layout on our own. Overall, I would recommend this resort as we did have a lovely time, but I would also suggest these improvements in order to live up to the 5 star rating that Occidental at Xcaret prides itself on.
