One of the reasons we booked Essaouira Lodge was the promise of a kitchenette so we could do simple food preparation during our stay. However, the kitchen in our apartment lacked any of the bare essentials required to use it, such as cookware, cooking utensils, or cleaning products. After some back and forth with the staff we managed to get some beat-up pots and pans and a scrubbing brush; we had to forget about doing anything more complicated than boiling eggs. The kettle was filthy and the coffee maker needed an hour of amateur engineering and cleaning to bring it to working order.
The apartment itself was quite nice but very much showing signs of age and cumulative lack of maintenance.
The shuttle service back and forth from the city is excellent. The pool is nice and the staff in the restaurant/bar are lovely. The breakfast, however, is a bit grim.
