The property was conveniently located near the beach. We loved the area. It is very family oriented. The property was clean and the property company was responsive with the minor issues that we found.

Bad experience property management

The house was ok, but it was a nightmare dealing with the property management company, carolina shores. They would send emails saying the stay was canceled and when I would reply, they wouldnt respond. This happened at least 2x. More specifically, they would send emails related to charging my card and stated no response was needed so i didnt respond, then i would get an email saying the stay was canceled. I would call them and they were unprofessional and would deny things happened. They also didnt respond to emails.

Our week stay

My family and I stayed for a week at this property. It was a mixed bag for us which I’ve broken down below. Check in was smooth and easy. Honestly the easiest of anywhere I’ve stayed in the past. Location is great! Was very easy to get to from anywhere we travelled to including the beach. When we arrived to the property however it seemed no one cleaned it recently. Our pets had found loads of bottles, freeze pop wrappers, bottle caps, a half eaten protein bar, hair ties and even a tooth brush during our trip. Luckily it seemed like they didn’t eat anything they shouldn’t have but that much trash was off putting when we were told the property was inspected prior to check-in. Also, it seemed none of the rooms had been swept recently. Both coffee devices had brewed coffee grinds in them upon arrival. Admittedly, we didn’t initially see to call for emergency cleaning should we see these things, but there was a lot of paperwork and signage at the property so it got lost. The office staff did say that would we have called they would have had someone out quickly. Something to note that is something of a first is the property owners don’t offer any kind of towels for your stay. For showers or even hand towels, so expect to run to TJ max or target for towels. Something like this is pretty inconvenient for a property that has onsite washers and dryers and expects you to remove sheets. Overall, we would not stay here again.

Enjoyed our stay

Overall the house is nice. Short walk to the beach. Short drive to restaurants and activities. I think the company that owns this house shouldn't charge for towels and have supplies on site like paper towels and toilet paper like every other VRBO house I've stayed in.

Great location, needs better cleaning

Location was great and the house itself was a good layout for our family. Couldnt of got a better location for first time OBX visitors. Cleanliness upon arrival was very disappointing. A lot of dog hair, grease in stove knobs and stovetop. Luckily we brought our cordless shark vacuum and did some cleaning. We left it in amazing shape in comparison. I just hope they get a better cleaning crew out there.

The place was comfortable and well located however it could use more cleaning. The bathrooms were not very clean, also there was dust all over. However the kitchen was fine and bedrooms. The outdoor shower was great, we used it all the time.

Nice place but needs a good cleaning

The house was a great size for my family and well equipped. I just wish that the comforters on our beds weren't covered in pet hair. I always rent pet friendly places because I have a dog of my own and have never experienced so much hair.

Offseason enjoyment

Really enjoyed the OBX in the early offseason. This cottage was everything it was advertised to be. No view, but a nice short walk to the beach with excellent access.

Quiet rental near everything!

Location was perfect! It's on a dead end street and so peaceful! The place was spacious. Property managers were readily available all week by phone call. The rental process was smooth and the home was just what me and my guests needed for the week. I'd recommend the rental to friends if they plan a trip to OBX.

A Nice Wave from it All

We enjoyed our stay at the property. It was very clean and comfortable. As some have noted the mattress in the main floor bedroom was noisy, but we got used to that. The frustration was that the property manager did not have very good information about the property. Even after asking specific questions about linens, bath towels, paper products, kitchen supplies etc. before our arrival , they were vague and only after we arrived to find no paper products, towels or kitchen seasonings or condiments did they inform us that those things varied by the property being rented. If they had informed us what was or wasn't at the property we rented, we could have brought what we needed without having to rush out and buy supplies on our arrival. Also the property managers provided us with the wrong WiFi information as the property had a new Internet provider. The WiFi and internet worked well for 98% of the time. Overall we liked the property, but were disappointed with the property management's lack of attention to details.

The house was tucked in a little neighborhood with mostly locals. Closer to Croatan Hwy than Beach road. Nice walk to public access beach. House was adequately supplied. Good size for the 4 of us. Updated kitchen and floors. Could use new mattresses, very noisy. Good stay, no problems.

The property was everything we expected. Our relatives rented the same week for much cheaper in a larger location in kill Devil Hills but may be because we got ours later ours was much more expensive. There also was very little toilet paper when we arrived and we had to make a trip to the store that night. That we got in which was an inconvenience.

Enjoyed the stay despite communication issues.

The unit was very nice, private, quite and accommodating, not far from the beach and other conveniences. There was some confusion as to the need for linens and towels. We were not informed that this was a "bed making" residence. Additionally the dishwasher was unconventional and the only directions available were in French. The first load washed for 119 minutes and nothing got clean, The information available appeared to require liquid detergent which was used and then over-sudsed. Maintenance was sent. The repair man was a bit rude in determining the issue and also could not resolve the issue. No one followed up after that. The load in the washer finally completed, rinsed and was ok, but we washed all dishes by hand after that. The charcoal grill was so full of ash that it had to be totally cleaned before use. The ash trap was stuck so the whole grill had to be inverted in order to dispose of ash. There was additional confusion about the trash disposal and neighbors informed us that trash was picked up on both Saturday and Tuesday and that the area no longer requires recycling. The broker handling the property failed to inform us of all this and we had to depend on neighbors. In fact the neighbor also contacted the property owner and both downloaded and printed a manual for the dishwasher which we left prominently displayed for the next tenant. I have used VRBO in the past and was pleased to be able to communicate directly with the owner, not so in this case a broker was the middleman and not efficient. I will not lease another unit through a broker again. I was not satisfied with them at all.
