Wat je kan verwachten

Georgia doesn't ease you in gently. It hits you all at once — stone giants on a hilltop, bears behind a fence, a 1,500-year-old monastery hanging over two rivers. That's basically your morning.

You start at the Chronicle of Georgia. Sixteen massive stone columns carved with kings, saints and warriors, standing above Tbilisi with the reservoir stretched out behind them. It's the kind of place that makes you stop talking. Bring a wide lens.

Then the road climbs into Sabaduri. In spring the forest is ridiculous — everything is green and the air actually smells like something. The wildlife sanctuary here takes in rescued bears, wolves and dogs. These aren't performing animals. They're just living their lives, and you get to watch. You can leave a donation if you want to. Nobody will pressure you.

Jvari Monastery comes last, and it earns its UNESCO status. Built in the 6th century, perched right where the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers meet below Mtskheta. On a clear spring day the mountains show up behind it. Photographers know this spot. There's a reason.

The whole thing runs about 4 to 5 hours. Small group, comfortable vehicle, local guide who actually knows the history and isn't reading from a card. You're back in Tbilisi before lunch.
Rated 4.9 by 100+ travelers. Gratis annuleren tot 24 uur van tevoren.

  • Good for kids? Bears, a forest and a monastery on a cliff. Ja.
  • How long? 4 to 5 hours. Back in Tbilisi by afternoon.
  • Is Jvari easy to reach? Short walk from the car park. Wear comfortable shoes, not heels.
  • Do I pay extra at the Bear Sanctuary? Entry is covered. There's a donation box if you want to support the animals — completely optional.
  • What language is the group tour in? Engels. Your guide is local and fluent — real conversations, not rehearsed scripts.
  • Who actually books this? Families, solo travelers doing Georgia in a week, history people, nature people, the person who needs three good photos before noon, and anyone who typed “things to do near Tbilisi” at midnight.
