'Our stay at Shiomachi Roya in Tomonoura was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. I was impressed by the renovations done to turn this old merchant house into an inn. I liked the design and decor. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Because this particular house (Roya) has only 4 rooms to stay in, the staff are located at another sister inn literally just around the corner, one minute away. 'Location and staff were great but amenities were lacking. No toothbrush? Check-in time only between 4-8 pm? Property had no onsen? These are pretty standard items for Japanese hotels and for the price, they should have been provided.'
