Built around 1790, the home was thoughtfully positioned to take full advantage of the surrounding landscape. The Belvedere sits beside Dam No. 5, an area rich in American history. During both the Revolutionary War and the Civil War, this stretch of the Potomac served as an important crossing point near an old mill and river ford. While the battles are long past, the history of the region still echoes throughout the landscape.

Nature surrounds the property. A dramatic natural rock formation rises behind the house, while a stately colonnade of towering old trees marks one edge of the grounds. Bald eagles, Canadian geese, deer, and other wildlife are frequent visitors, making mornings along the river especially memorable.
