Casa S. Miguel Arcanjo - T5

History doesn't tell us who laid the first stone of the Casa de S.Miguel Arcanjo. The old days go back to Manoel Antunes, brother of the Viscount of Penedo, António Antunes Sobrinho, whose childhood certainly took place around the house and the water channels in the lands of Lamelas and Fagilde. His son, Professor José Vieira Antunes, married Delfina Oliveira Trindade, and the entire family's life was spent in the house.

Due to the premature death of her mother Teresa Maria, Delfina Oliveira Trindade grew up in Caniçada with her uncle, Dr. Casimiro de Oliveira, a doctor who was also the uncle of the filmmaker Manoel de Oliveira, recognized and awarded at Cannes. During his lifetime, his son Aníbal Garibaldi Rebelo Antunes, chief inspector of the Porto Judicial Police, whose heirs were his two daughters. He inherited the house and land of S. Miguel Arcanjo.

These are the roots of the space designed to elevate the senses, for the pleasure of deep communion with Mother Nature, where she becomes fully generous, in the lands of Caniçada / Gerês, framed in the mountainous amphitheater, deepened by the calm and quiet of the Cávado River. This space can also be a refuge and inspiration for those who are passionate about art and culture.

The names of the rooms focus on poetic expression, paying homage to the greatest Portuguese poets: Camões, Fernando Pessoa, Sophia de Mello Brayner, Eugénio de Andrade, and Miguel Torga.

At Casa S. Miguel Arcanjo there is also a library of mostly poetry.

This is the atmosphere of complicity, of silences, of words spoken and dreams, to which we invite you to discover this house, reborn from centuries-old stones that tell us surprising stories.

The taste and smell of the Minho, the mountains and the rivers create the perfect, natural atmosphere of an ancient and untouchable time.
