The house is perfect and the space is completely immaculate. To be clear the front porch faces what looks like a gas station but actually is a country store ran by the nicest family. The right side of the house offers gorgeous river views. We were comfortable we absolutely loved our time down by the river. We had a fire we went fishing. Itâs one of the best family trips weâve taken.
The house is great, comfortable & big enough for a family or group of friends. It was clean had the essentials & good towels & linens. The shared patio area on the river is nice, you can't beat that view. The check in was easy, communication was fast & very helpful. They gave us a warm welcome & even made cookies for us. It is very close to the sandstone falls area & Hinton. We found a place close by to rent kayaks & had a great time on the New River!
Beautiful river house with all amenities you could need. We enjoyed our stay! Easy check-in, great communication and rustic property. All around great stay!
We lived our stay here!! The house was absolutely spotless (cleanest place Iâve ever stayed in) and loaded with charm! It was very comfortable and well-appointed. We especially loved the sitting area by the river. The location is close to Hinton for any of your creature comfort needs and close to Sandstone Falls. It is a ways from the bridge and those surrounding attractions but it was an easy 30-40 min drive there. The only minor issue was the nearness to the train, which was loud at times (of course!) but even that had its own sort of charm and fit with the whole experience. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to explore the area!!
The home was beautiful and extremely well stocked. The bedrooms are comfortable and spacious the living room area dining room and kitchen also very spacious. The kitchen was well stocked with spices and any utensils you would need. I will absolutely rent here again. The home was beyond clean.
Everything was as described. Owner goes above and beyond. The general store cafe is awesome. My husband is still talking about his Smash Burger!! We will be back
The cookies was great, the sleep machines in the bedroom was amazing. The view of the River was beautiful and the convenience of the store made it very nice. Our Host was very friendly and had great communication with us.
My three girlfriends and I had a two night getaway at this gorgeous house. The inside of this home was so well maintained and beautiful. You can tell the host puts a lot of effort into making the renting as comfortable and home-y as possible! There is one bedroom on the bottom floor with a half bath, which was perfect for my friend who broke her leg the week before. The host was very quick about answering the numerous questions our group had, and their patience was much appreciated! The homeâs location is easily accessible off the main road and a general store is about 100 feet, making it easy to pick up things you forgot. The location was great for all the hikes we managed to squeeze in during our stay. While there is a railroad directly next to the home, with some heavy sleepers or earplugs, it is truly not a problem as there are only one or two trains after dark. This was a great home, and I highly recommend it for larger groups! Next time we are around this area, we will absolutely be booking it!
Our stay was everything we could have hoped for. The fenced in yard was perfect for our dog. Plenty of space to run around!
The close proximity to the convenience store was perfect for quick snacks or whatever we needed.
The owners of the property are incredibly sweet, and even had freshly baked cookies waiting for us upon arrival. They were very responsive and attentive to detail.
The train was cool to watch pass by. We went to the national park and learned about the history of the area and the importance of the trains for the area, so we appreciated it.
Everything was great. Host was very responsive and provided lots of extras. As everyone notes, you are close to the trains.
I recommend staying here. We will stay again
Enjoyed our stay at The Big House and want to return
The house is spacious. Four bedrooms were perfect for our stay. Everything was nice and clean . We enjoyed sitting on the porches and down at the Landing on the river. The colors and weather were perfect. Parking was easy along with check in and check out. The special touches made us feel very welcome. We enjoyed watching all the Trains as well . There was a lot to see and do . Would love to stay again .
Very nice place very clean. very quit except the train but after a day you dont pay no attention to it.we loved it will go back. my 2 year old didnt wont to leave he loved it.
We stayed at The Big House for a weekend float on the New River. The house was great and came as advertised. Excellent proximity to the house river. Convenience store right next door was great.
We had a very nice stay. Huge house with four bedrooms. One of them and the lanai have a view of the river. There us also a gazebo next to the river. The place is extremely clean and very well stocked. A little grocery store/gas station close by. Also a Walmart about 20 min away. It was a great base to conduct field trips to see waterfalls, a coal mine exhibit, go for rafting and taking hikes in the beautiful mountain forests.
With 4 queen beds, this was an ideal place for our large family. The closeness of the river access was so nice. We enjoyed the beautiful mountain views making a campfire, the front porch swing, grilling out, going next door to the store for slushies and ice cream, meeting the neighbors who shared their garden veggies with us, and even Fourth of July fireworks on the river! The train was a nice touch, the kids loved being so close and being able to see the coal being hauled and even the Amtrak passenger trains.
We loved this house, located on the river next to the general store. The owners are extremely welcoming. Each of my three kids had their own room, which they were thrilled about. The general store had fantastic breakfasts and desserts. The house is right down the road from one of the national park visitors centers. It is not the main visitors center but had very good interactive exhibits that my teens enjoyed. If you are a light sleeper, I recommend packing ear plugs. I couple times a night a train comes through; however, it was for short durations. It is well worth the brief interruptions for the view on the dock. We spent our evenings reading by the river looking at the mountains. This is a unique and special place.
A few best friends from high school looked for somewhere in the center of where we all live and picked this home for our getaway.
We were a little disappointed with the weather - but absolutely no disappointment with the rental. Walked into a clean and clean smelling house that was more than what was expected. From the cozy living room to the stocked kitchen to the roomy bedrooms, we truly enjoyed our stay.
The wind kept us from sitting outside but loved the swing on the porch and the area down on the river to sit.
There are trains that you contend with, but it really was kind of cool to watch the coal being moved along and counting the length of them. They did not wake me up at all.
Thank you for allowing us to share in your home.
Spacious and comfortable home on the New River close to many natural attractions and snow sports. Our dog loved the fenced-in yard.
There is a train that comes through fairly regularly and it is close and loud when it does. Thankfully, it is usually a short train that comes and goes quickly.
I am a demanding customer and was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful experience we had at the Big House. This is a 1920s home with character, close to the river, big/loud trains passing regularly, spacious and laid out in a way this good for gathering. We held an adult sibling retreat for 4 here and our experience was outstanding! Owners added special touches to prep the home and accomodate us, which made it extra special. Will come back.
