I recently stayed at the Royal Sonesta Hotel, and my experience was quite disappointing. I initially booked a room with a pool view, but the hotel staff suggested upgrading to an ocean view room over the phone. I paid an additional fee expecting a significant improvement in the view.
However, when I arrived at the hotel and went to my room, I found that the view was still largely of the pool. From the balcony, I could see a small part of the beach from a corner angle, but it was far from the ocean view I was promised. The staff's description of the room seemed misleading, and I felt misled about what I was paying for.
To add to the frustration, when I brought this to the attention of the staff, there was some inconsistency in their response. They initially didn't acknowledge the issue, but later, the reception mentioned that the room type was indeed "ocean view" and offered to upgrade to an "oceanfront" room for an additional fee.
Given the significant extra amount I paid for the upgrade, I expected a room that truly lived up to the description. The lack of transparency and consistency in the hotel's communication and room allocation process was disappointing. If you're considering staying at this hotel, I would advise being very clear about what you're booking and perhaps verifying the details in person before making any upgrades or additional payments.
