We stayed in The Lady Jane Grey cottage on the outskirts of the Sudeley Castle Estate; a 5 minute walk from Winchcombe village. The cottage was described as having ‘a private courtyard garden’, which we were looking forward to relaxing in during the evenings, once we returned from exploring The Cotswolds. However, the area was just a small, gravelled space, with a low wall, overlooking the car park, so although it was self-contained, it certainly wasn’t very private and it was quite ugly to look at. A couple of the outdoor chairs were broken, meaning we couldn’t have sat there anyway. The gate leading from the car park into the ‘courtyard’ was hanging off its hinges, which was a bit concerning safety-wise, when there are children in the party. The living area can only be described as quite drab and depressing and certainly wasn’t welcoming. The seal around the bath has gone and water is obviously leaking, as there is a large water stain coming through to the ceiling. Wardrobe in single room is broken, broken socket in the front bedroom and curtain rail needs attention in the twin room, so it was difficult to close the curtains at night. Building work is going on within the cottage estate so we were woken up around 7:30 each morning by lorries. Considering this, I feel the cottage is over-priced and the whole party of 5 were disappointed.
