Maybe it’s an American expectation, but there was no help with luggage. You had to lug it up a set of stairs before reaching the heavy wooden doors, all while standing in the rain. Once inside, the staff was friendly, kind of. They seemed to be good at all the wrong things. The door to the balcony in my room was broken. Someone came to fix it, managed to break it further, and promised to add it to the maintenance list. He then told me I would be perfectly safe sleeping with a balcony door that would remain open all night. He assured me there were too many cameras focused on the building next door (possibly the spa) for anyone to attempt to enter my room. The balcony outside connected all the rooms on my floor and was separated only by a small iron fence that I could easily climb over. I don’t know. This is not a budget hotel, right? Am I wrong to expect better service and a greater sense of security? The rooms were fine and well-appointed. The bathroom was standard but perfectly adequate. The art, however, seemed very out of place. Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans paired with typical pink Victorian designs? It just missed the mark. The grounds were fine but could have been better maintained. In their defense, it is October and the end of the growing season. All in all, I don’t think this hotel is worth the cost and given the opportunity I would not stay here again.
