'We enjoyed our stay. Friendly staff. Loads of old Roman ruins around the property '

'Exceptionally pleasant and wonderful staff, Lovely big, very clean room. Food in the restaurant was very good. Would happily stay here again.'

'Smaakvol ingerichte kamer, badkamer oud en niet schoon. Bed kapot. Jammer, want de kamer is ruim en de mensen heel behulpzaam. Barnard castle is zeker de moeite waard.'

'Good restaurant. Just some noice from the pub.'

'Location is lovely quiet and picturesque. We were at a wedding close by so only needed the hotel to sleep at, the hotel is a bit in need of a re-furb but very nice staff and the room was fresh and comfortable. The room was clean, bedding and bed were comfortable we did not eat as arrived at 3 dropped bags and headed to wedding.left at 8 in morning Would stay again as we both said apart from corridors and general impression it was a nice nights sleep Plenty parking and nice area for a morning...

'Mooi hotel, met goed Engels ontbijt.'

'The room smelled badly of smoking. 🚬 staff were okay. Area was sketchy. Sorry but I can’t recommend this place.'

'Mooi en grote kamer, lounge en restaurant. Maar waarom houten vloeren, het piept en kraakt, heel irritant'

'Unfortunately my wife had fairly bad illness during our stay, through no fault of the hotel, but I would like to praise the staff, especially the night manager for the assistance to transfer my wife to hospital.'

'Goed hotel prima eten makkelijk parkeren'

'Very friendly and helpful staff and the room was comfortable and clean. We had dinner in the restaurant and couldn't fault the meal.'

'The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful, nice warm welcome. This hotel is lovely, unfortunately the owners don’t appear to want to spend any money maintaining the building. The rooms are clean but cracked floor tiles in the bathroom, ceiling damaged and not repaired properly or repainted. The beds are comfortable and linen is spotless.'

'This was a very old historical building in as good of a shape as it could be. Some uneven floors and a lot of steps to get to your room. It was small and quiet charming. The staff was pleasant and helpful. A bus stop was right out the side. Very pleasant. The bed was nice, no air conditioning, but it was fairly cool when we went in August, 2026. They had a fan. We are from Florida so the low 70's was a joy for us for August.'
