I know it's a 500 year old inn, and that explains a lot of its quirks. But large amounts of black mold in every corner of the shower upon checking in isn't related to the building age. Some shower spray would help that. And there's WiFi, but we couldn't access it from inside our room for more than a few seconds at a time. I wouldn't stay again. At least it was pretty cheap.
On entering you see a good bar and eating area (kitchen was closed during our stay) but the location near the end of the High Street put many of the towns other pubs and eateries close to the hotel. Car parking was at the NCP just around the back. As to be expected in such an old building, it had many quirky features, but the room had everything we needed and we got a few good nights sleep.
I will say that the staff were kind, the hot water worked, and the sheets & towels seemed clean, but the rest of the room/premises were filthy. The kitchen was never open, the carpet was thin & scratchy, and didnât seem to have been replaced or cleaned since the 1970s, the toilet seat was crooked, and the stall shower in my room had a shocking amount of black mold.
The pictures of the patio furniture were inaccurate. They had old wooden picnic benches with overflowing ashtrays. I donât mind old or small, but this was unhygienic.
We went to Strafford Upon Avon for a couple of days to explore around spending most of time outside. The room was very simple and but with some tea and coffee available. The heating went off in the evening but we called the reception and they turned it on again (the room was freezing). The hot water wasnt that hot and the shower was a bit difficult due the low temperatures. The tiles in the shower had some black spots but it was ok.
The Hotel is walking distance to the high street and best places to visit. Easy checkin and checkout.
VERY dated room with no effort to make it make the room feel like a hotel room. No heating, no lock on the bathroom door, mould in the bathroom and around the window, kettle just plonked on the floor with wires everywhere. Handwritten notices all over the room. Extremely loud pub/club noises until 4am. Dirty sheets. Do not stay here
This was a cheap room in centre of Stratford so you obviously get what you pay for as Stratford accommodation is not cheap. It was v basic clean accommodation in a very old pub - donât expect anything more than that and was fine for one night.
This is the worst place we have stayed in a long time. Photos show a simple set-up, I wasnât expecting luxury, but at the price we paid I was expecting somewhere we could get a decent nights sleep that was not gross. The beds were terrible, visibly uneven and worn down. Bathroom was filthy. Second floor with a beautiful window over the street, but no lock on it or mechanism to prevent it from opening all the way. In historic buildings, I understand there are some things that will be different. But I booked for two adults and two small kids so this is a major hazard to not even mention. Location is great, Iâll say that.
Location is an easy walk from the station and close to the centre of town and its attractions.
No breakfast is available unless booked in advance. Room has a kettle.
Good size room. Comfortable bed.
Well heated with thermostatic radiator and heated towel rail.
Water pressure in shower good, hot water immediately available. Mould on shower ceiling and small patches of mould on grouting between tiles.
I stayed on a mid-September Saturday night and had requested a quiet room. Any sound insulation was ineffective with music, singing and shouting clearly heard from the bar below. Also noise from the corridor too. Single glazing means that any external noise is heard. The night I stayed the pub opposite had a live band that played until late and the last revellers were still talking in the street outside until 1am. Regular not blackout curtains. Iâd stay here again but would bring good earplugs and an eye mask.
Charming pub right in the centre of Stratford Upon Avon. Easy to walk to all main attractions. Staff friendly and happy to assist me with my rather awkwardly sized bag. Bed comfortable, lovely hot shower. Would recommend.
There is very loud music playing till late hours of the night. Back area ( only way to access guest rooms) have other patrons who are smoking making the whole area unsafe for young children. None of the above is mentioned on the website for guests to make an informed decision. Not suitable for families with children at all.
