Wonderful grounds and spacious rooms. My bed was quite comfortable. My room had a very large bathroom, which featured a generous bath and great water pressure!

Beautiful location. Inaccurate internet portrayal of Superior Room as windows were not shown and we were given a room with a tiny window. Would never have booked such a room if the internet photo was accurate. Also we were unaware of such a thing as PRIVILEGE rooms……consequently a superior room unlike other hotels had no real frills!! Never heard of such a category in all our travels. After pushing the issue of the window, we were given a handicapped room which was certainly not what we ordered. The receptionist who arranged this was very curt and not willing to please. There was no mention of compensation. Finally the manager intervened and arranged for a lovely room for the next three nights of a four night stay. She also arranged for some modest financial compensation with the booking agency. Overall the staff need much better training…..reception, bar service, breakfast service!!! Obviously this does not apply to all staff but ineptitude in some cases is very noticeable. This is not acceptable for a hotel of this standard. We enjoyed the grounds.

Beautiful grounds, rooms a bit tired, pillows very poor hurt my ears, and my husband had same. Also children’s swimming lessons in pool unable to get lounger as Mother’s sat on them waiting for children. Also very noisy for 3 hours. Would have waited if I knew lessons were going on. Staff were extremely attentive and the dining experience was excellent food excellent this could be a 5* experience if hotel had some TLC, and very minor changes in all had a lovely experience thank you

One night stay at the property. It was in a nice area and grounds. The room was adequate, bed was comfortable. Wardrobe doors were broken. Shower wasn’t the best at all. Facilities were good, Enjoyed the gym and sauna / ice room (no ice in there tho, just a cold shower) Breakfast was good. Upon check out I asked the lady on reception about the £50 fee they took from me as a holding fee, she said that she was processing them that day, so I expected it to be returned within a couple of days. Today which is Thursday, I decided to call the hotel to ask what was happening to my £50. I was put on hold whilst they had a look at my booking. The receptionist came back and said that it hadn’t been processed! She apologised but if I hadn’t of called to check they would have just sat on it. I really didn’t expect that at all and a little disappointing to be honest.

Terrible at check in and check out. One lady training and one lady seemed to have no idea! very slow, given wrong room key, not helpful. Breakfast poor, no fresh fruit left, no pastries, no black pudding. When asked for more, told none left. Sausage pale and cold, eggs solid, dirty cups. Generally a very average stay with overpriced food and drinks in the bar area at night.

I chose this hotel because of it’s lovely looks from the outside and the rooms when I got there it was fantastic. The dining options were very good and although a little bit more than I like to pay I really enjoyed it.

Nice period style hotel with an extension including spa and extra rooms. Would definitely avoid rooms 25-29 as they are over a conference suite. We had a noisy karaoke until midnight on the first night. Breakfast very good and there is a separate car park by the spa if you are in the new rooms. A room in the older part of the house would be my preference if we returned.

I stayed with my partner in the Stable Rooms. Thought it a bit strange at first but really enjoyed the quietness. The only set back was having to walk into the main Hotel Restaurant for our breakfast and meals, especially, during our stay, it rained heavily for a couple of evenings. We weren't overly put off, but it could become an issue to some! Overall the place is beautiful & in a lovely location.

The receptionist were incredibly helpful when booking a room last minute. The room was large and the bed even more so. The food for dinner and breakfast was very enjoyable. Spa facilities were very good. It was just my 9 month old baby and I. It was a bit confusing getting from room to restaurant, or room to spa. I think the signage could be made clearer - especially if I was avoiding going outside to access the spa. There wasn’t any support offered to me for carrying things, in terms of balancing bags and baby.

Didn’t feel like much of a spa. Hot tub was out of order and spa showers smelt bad and area felt dirty. Food took over 1.5 hour to arrive after ordering and wine after food. Food was very average, small portions of dry meat and cost £20 for a this. Staff were polite and apologised for the delay. Felt that the wine should have been taken off the bill as I’d mostly finished my food by the time it arrived. Prepare your expectations and don’t get excited about the “spa”.

Great stay in a beautiful area
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was great with a lovely view over the lake. It was very quiet and the room was lovely and warm with a very comfortable bed. Everything was clean and apart from a hairdryer in the room all was fine. Perhaps a hairdryer could be obtained via reception, did not need it for the time we stayed.

An amazing hotel
We stayed at this wonderful hotel... for my husbands birthday , from start to finish, they couldn't do enough for us the reception staff were so lovely and friendly and so helpful... The spar was so relaxing with a fantastic coffee machine 😅 The food and restaurant was incredible the highest of standards , The bar man couldn't do enough for us and was so helpful and very good at his customer services, he had dark spiky hair not tall... black shirt and trousers... he needs a pay rise 👏😅 everyone was so polite and friendly, I find many places do not have the level of customer service like these guys do... thank you for making our stay amazing... We will definitely be back 👏😀

A hotel in need of work
A tired hotel in need of some TLC. Reception desks needed smartening up and gave a sad initial impression of the inside of the hotel. Not all of the outside lights worked and we missed the signs for reception. We stayed in the School Master's House which was noisey. We could hear others showering and our floor squeeked so we felt sorry for those below us. The room was was of a decent size and bed was comfortable. Shower pulsed. Breakfast was adequate and expensive for what it was. Spa was fine. The outside of the house is lovely as are the grounds. This could be a stunning hotel.

Our room was in the stable block. The room was very spacious however, it sparsely furnished and looked very odd. Lighting was insufficient for the size of the room. The shower had a sliding door which only opened up approx one foot wide making it very difficult to enter and exit the shower. Very strange. Breakfast was distinctly average and the chairs in the breakfast room very very uncomfortable to sit on. We didn’t use the spa facilities during our stay.

Happy relaxing hotel
One of the biggest things we noticed was how happy and friendly all of the staff were… the house keepers, bar staff, waiting on staff and front of house staff making the experience of staying in the hotel very enjoyable.

Great hotel, excellent food pleasant staff. Traditional decor but room was comfortable and clean.

Great check in and late dinner reservation organised by the front desk. Dining team were quite hassled in the Oak Room but still managed to remain professional. Room clean quiet and comfortable. No upgrade this time alas. Pool fantastic and welcoming team. It’s a good hotel with fantastic staff who could not have been more helpful

It’s blah
Staff were ok. Booked a privilege room. Had to change rooms as first room was dirty and had no where to sit and a small double bed in a huge room. Got moved to a better looking room with a sofa very grateful but no robes and slippers like the other room. The place is inconsistent and cheap but I didn’t pay much as used a free reward night. So I got what I paid for
Huge room so put in tiny bed and hide the in the corner so it’s uncomfortable to watch 👍
