2/10 – Ontzettend slecht

Apparently, this hotel thought it was ethically excusable to charge double their average rate per night (at two days, this quickly eclipsed the asking cost of 5 star hotels) because it happened to fall on Valentine's Day. The problem is it had no working toilet in that time. Worse still, we weren't even trying to celebrate Valentines Day. Further, this hotel had no basic amenities that you'd see with far cheaper hotels, e.g. smart tv, usb ports for modern devices, etc.
To compound these issues, within 5 minutes of arriving, someone from a conjoined room knocked on our door to complain he could hear our entire conversation, which wasnt loud. This tracks with the setting, as we were routinely woken up by clamorous racket of every stripe for the duration of our stay, and later heard similar from another guest, who said "paper thin walls" were apparently "a thing here."
This would have been semi-excusable with a refund of any appreciable amount, but the desk clerk said he wasnt authorized to refund more than $50, and offered his condolences.
This hotel is apparently guilty of leaning hard on its historic landmark status for upselling during holidays, when it would do better to issue renovations to keep them out of flophouse designation.
The one redeeming feature was their midnight hotel clerk, who was able to check us in at a very late hour. But given the cost, and general experience, that hardly justifies a starry review. Unless you're here for the ghosts, steer clear.
