This hotel is unique because it’s located below street level, immediately adjacent to the railways of Gare de l’Est; that makes it very convenient (I heard no noise from the trains at all) but also unusual. The four-star classification seemed baffling at first, because to enter the hotel, I went down rickety metal scaffolding and entered the reception area, which has low, dark ceilings and two hotel staff working on laptops on one tiny podium used as a desk (it certainly didn’t inspire a luxurious image). However, the staff were friendly and the room itself was bright and modern; it was small, but I didn’t need much. The business lounge was bright and beautiful with large windows. I didn’t use the sauna or exercise facilities, but I made good use of the ironing room and the water filling station, which were very convenient and useful. I would recommend this place if you have an early morning train from Gare du Nord or Gare de l’Est like I did, since the access to both is quite advantageous.
