From Lauwerzijl, you can explore the Lauwersmeer National Park with its cycling and hiking trails and excellent birdwatching opportunities. Take a boat trip on the Reitdiep to Lauwersmeer or head to Zoutkamp to sample freshly caught fish in the harbour. Visit the Fiskerhuske museum or plan a day trip to the Wadden island of Schiermonnikoog, which you can easily reach by ferry from Lauwersoog.
