There are many well-marked hiking trails as well as some cycling routes. You can hike around the reservoir and have a fantastic view from the dam (Oleftalsperre)—the chances of spotting a deer or bird of prey while hiking are high. But if you want to be sure to see animals, visit Wildfreigehege Nature Park, a nature park with all kinds of animals, such as deer, boar, and even wolves.

A special place nearby is Burg Reifferscheid; the castle and historic village can be visited for free. It is very characteristic and photo-worthy.
