An unpredicted ice storm created dangerous road conditions throughout the area, making travel unsafe during our stay and at checkout. As soon as forecasts indicated roads could become hazardous, we reached out several days in advance to communicate legitimate safety concerns and request flexibility. The host refused all optios: no refund, no partial refund, and no ability to rebook.We ultimately traveled home early after staying only one night instead of the two booked because road conditions became increasingly iced over and ultimately undrivable. Had we stayed longer, we would have been physically unable to leave and forced to pay for additional nights until conditions improved. Despite these realities, the host’s position never changed. It was made clear that collecting payment mattered more than guest safety during a weather emergency.We travel to this area 4–5 times a year and made every reasonable effort to handle the situation responsibly and in good faith. As hosts ourselves, we have shown flexibility to guests in far less serious situations. While the property itself was clean and accurately described, the complete lack of accommodation during a legitimate safety issue resulted in this one-star review.Future guests should carefully consider how this host responds when unavoidable, safety-related travel disruptions occur.
