  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

Great stay once again! Our second time here and great place, clean and perfect if traveling with your pup! Nice dog park and great communication from host! Place has everything you need and close by many things to do in Columbus area!

Absolutely amazing place! Clean and had everything we needed! Dog park is amazing and was perfect for my husband and I and our dog! Spent Thanksgiving with family nearby and able to come back to nice hot tub and relax! Thanks for the nice accommodations and we will return!

My daughters are in college at OWU and OSU. This was the perfect spot for a relaxing weekend together. It's in a great location to get out and about but we mostly sat in the sunshine of the dog park with our 2 pups and enjoyed each other company. The entire cottage is well equiped! We didn't use a fraction of the amenities this time, but we will be back!

Beautiful little cottage for a weekend getaway. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was how clean and organized everything was. They had a lot of things labeled to help minimize confusion and we really appreciated that. There were plenty of activities for the kids during our weekend stay. Our 4 year old son enjoyed riding the numerous power wheels that they had in the big garage and our 1 year old enjoyed rolling the balls and playing the giant connect 4. They even had zig zag scooters for adults which my wife and I had a lot of fun with. Doc was extremely helpful and super responsive. We will definitely be back in the future!

Great stay for people with pets. And if you like to stay in and cook this is the place!

This is one of the nicest most organized clean properties that I have stayed at! it was so easy with our pets. there was a dog park, fire pit hose to wash things with, they seem to have thought of every little detail to make our stay very very comfortable. Everything was marked very clearly so you knew exactly where to put things! If you like to cook and have fun meals together you'll find everything you need in the well start kitchen! would definitely stay here again!!!

We stayed here in between selling our home and moving into our home. Hosts were very welcoming and friendly. Their attention to detail and the amenities were top notch. My dogs loved the dog park. They even had dog toys and a cooler of fresh water for the pups. Would stay here again.

Beautiful Property and Friendly Host

Came for Memorial Day weekend getaway. Brought our dogs who loved the dog park to run free. As did our 2 yr old. The toy barn is stacked with all kinds of games, ride em cars, drifters, any thing you could want. Clean property, and lots to do nearby. Doc and his wife even provided baby specific toys and pack n play crib for our arrival. Very communicative and kind people. Baby enjoyed his first fire pit, s’mores and golf cart ride! Highly recommend.

What a Treat for Me & My Pups

The Calico Cottage was more of a retreat than the business trip I was using it for! Perfect, quiet space with everything you could need in a convenient location to stores & restaurants. They even have a huge private dog park with a firepit inside of it so guests can hang out while their dogs run around like crazy. We will definitely be back!!

This was easily one of the best STRs I've stayed at. Exactly as advertised, EXCEPTIONALLY clean, modern, thoughtful, and comfortable. Perfect for a couple or small family traveling with pets. The half acre dog park complete with fire pit and seating area makes for an awesome relaxation spot with your fur kids. The owner was lightning fast to respond and always available. I'd book again in a heartbeat.

All you could ask for!

This place is amazing! Very well maintained property and very safe surroundings. The house was updated, cozy but spacious, and had everything you would need. Doc went out of his way to accommodate us, excellent host, great communication, all around good experience. Close to plenty of restaurants, area attractions, and leas than 10 minutes from Alum Creek. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the area!

Lovely Cabin Centrally Located

Beautiful property centrally located. Very easy to get around to Columbus, Polaris Mall, Easton Center, Worthington, and Delaware. There are so many amenities-everything is on premise. The owners thought of everything so there is no need to bring a lot of extra items. Very clean and nicely decorated.Would highly recommend for couples, family, fur baby parents, and parents with young children.

"I booked the cottage just a couple of days before my arrival, and everything went smoothly. The owners were great at communicating, and the cottage was perfect—equipped with everything I needed. I felt completely safe on the property. Having traveled to all 50 states, I can confidently say this is one of the best rentals I've found on VRBO. The owner even provided excellent restaurant recommendations. I'm hesitant to share this gem because I want to keep it a secret, but I will definitely be back!"

Holiday stay at the Calico Cottage

What a lovely visit at the Calico Cottage. We have family in Powell, and we’re always looking for a close place to stay with our dogs. This was the perfect place, in a great area with just the right amenities. The only downside was trying to get our dogs to leave the amazing dog park on the property. They absolutely loved it too! Will definitely be back.

Great Get Away

Such a cute, homey feel! The dog park was a big hit with our dog, being a city dog, he doesn’t usually get to zoom off leash. Nearby beautiful neighborhood with sidewalks for dog walks. We wanted for nothing, very well stocked kitchen and bathroom. Hot tub was lovely! The hosts even accommodated a late check out to better facilitate our travel home. It was a great get away.

Nice little getaway!

Doc and Carrie were fantastic hosts. The place was very clean, very comfy and in a great location. We enjoyed our weekend mini trip going to the zoo, shopping, and dining. The dogs had a blast at the dog park playing frisbee everyday. We will definitely be back!

Rural Paradise

We found our perfect place to stay, while visiting family in Ohio! The owners/hosts were very kind and approachable for conversations. They attended to any needs, promptly. A lot of thought was put into their property and units to accommodate anyone and any age, from electric toy vehicles, basketball, corn hole, hot tubs to fire pits! The fenced in dog park was a plus. The unit itself had everything one would need for a relaxing stay! We will definitely be staying here again, when visiting Ohio.
