Nice Villa

The villa is within easy walking distance to the beach and a couple of great restaurants. The beds are extremely large and comfortable, AC worked great (It was 35c when we were there so needed it for sure! Only rent a place with AC), and the kitchen is very well equipped (we did lots of cooking in the villa). We enjoyed the small pool and usually had it to ourselves which was nice. Just make sure you do a grocery shop before arriving at Playa Grande as the little markets in PG are VERY expensive. Out of the owner's control but It's Costa Rica, so expect some potential insects. We also were able to do an estuary tour that started just a 2 min walk away which was cool (Shawna organized it for us) and we took the boat over to Tamarindo one morning just to check it out. But PG beach was much quieter and Tamarindo was too busy for us. You can also easily do some trips to other beaches easily such as Playa Conchal which was beautiful. Shawna was very helpful and responded quickly to any of our questions.

Great Stay in Playa Grande

Sunshine Villa is exactly as pictured / described in the listing. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils , etc and the beds were comfortable! We stayed with two young kids and it fit our family well. The walk to the beach was short, just took us longer with the kids and there were a few restaurants nearby to walk to! We felt like we had plenty of privacy with the other villas nearby and very secure. Playa Grande Estates in general is very safe, a little out of the way, but a great community. The only downside to our stay was the pool- everyday there was either animal poop inside or outside the pool. We didn’t use it once we found it inside. Thankfully friends nearby had a pool to use!

Love it!!

The best, cutest casa near the beach. We had a great time and loved the accommodations. It was cozy and fully equipped for all our needs. We loved the property managers. The tight community made us feel safe. Outstanding!!

Lovely Villa

We had a wonderful stay at Sunshine Villa! The house is so comfortable and we loved the swimming pool! The property is so beautiful with lots of wild life and as an added bonus it is super close to the beach. Both the owners and property manager were very responsive both before and during the stay. If you are traveling during low season I would recommend having a rental car because the bars and restaurants close during this time so you have to travel to town but it is still a great location. Would recommend!

Isolated beauty

Nearly 15 minutes over rutted, pot-holed, unpaved roads lead to an oasis of calm. Home is one of 5 in a little enclave surrounding the pool. Very peaceful, just like pictures, clean and well-appointed. (no hair dryer, however. And due to on-going drought, there were limitations on length of showers, availability of ice, etc.) Very small, pesky ants are everywhere in Costa Rica. You just have to get used to them & secure all foods in frig. Comfy king beds, good AC, nice pool. Bathroom towels and rugs could def use an upgrade. All communication w/mgmt staff was professional and prompt. Be sure to arrange delivery of foods/beverages ahead of time as the nearest store is over an hour away, and there are only a few restaurants nearby. The beautiful beach is only a short walk away, open from 6-6daily. (Costa Rica nat'l Parks owns the beach property,) Beautiful but truly an isolated destination, although Tamarindo is about 30 minutes away for restaurants, clubs, shopping.

Just the best experience ever

Not only was the house absolutely perfect and met all our needs, but dealing with Shawna and Jorge was effortless. The house had all the accommodations we could have hoped for. It's location was accessible to everything. I would highly recommend a stay here for anyone who is seeking a tranquil stay in Costa Rica.

Great place!!

We loved this place! Great location, nice compound with a shared pool kept so clean! The only bummer was no big bowl only small cereal bowls and the blender is stripped so doesn't work. Those can be easily replaced. Thanks to Jorge for helping us and our next door friends get comfy.

Excellent Holliday Vacations!

Great place to stay for the Hollidays. Pros: -Very near to the beach. Walking distance. The beach is Awesome. Since it is a National Park it is very well taken care of, it is very clean, there is not a lot of noise. -Very near to restaurants, at least three of them are within walking distance. Some other options in Playa Grande. -Near to convenience store. Walking distance as well. -The house has a very practical distribution and they have everything you need (linen, kitchen appliances, small appliances, cutlery, dishes, etc) -Pool area is nice and has shadow, which makes it comfortable to stay during the day. -Some included entertainment (boogie boards, some books, some board games, cards) -Very recently bought main kitchen appliances. -Good internet. -Clean. Cons -Kitchen and wooden doors may need some maintenance. -Water pump makes some noise that can be fixed. -BBQ is ok, might need maintenance soon.

Playa Grande - Sunshine Villa

What a fantastic house and location! I was so surprised by what was available within Palm Beach Estates - several great restaurants, bike rentals and tour operators, a little market. It was the icing on the Sunshine Villa cake. The house was so perfect: extremely comfortable king size beds in each bedroom, a nice sized living room with TV, a well stocked kitchen. Outside, the patio led right to the pool and had comfy patio furniture (and hammock) to lounge in. The beach was a short walk away and was much less busy than Tamarindo. If we decide to return to Costa Rica next year, I would definitely consider booking Sunshine Villa again. Muchas gracias and pura vida, Shawna, Rick, and Teresa!

Noise level very dependent on neighbours

I love Palm Beach Estates and will return. Shawna manages this property and she is GREAT - you couldn’t ask for a kinder, more resourceful person who goes above and beyond on all counts. The house has everything you could possibly need - even a boogie board! We stayed for two weeks and had a lovely time BUT it was loud due to rentals behind that seem to attract louder people (probably heard music 10 of 14 days we were there), and the house could use an ant exterminator to go through. Having said that, I think both those issues are seasonal and remedied. We will definitely go back to Palm Beach Estates - it’s a great area!!

Playa Grande

We loved this little piece of Costa Rica. My husband and 2 sons (24 and 20) stayed here for New Years -and into January 2018. This is a great little spot, very laid back, practically had the pool to ourselves. Grounds keepers worked diligently every morning to keep everything clean. The villa itself was a great little setup. Keep in mind 1 bathroom! It was okay for a week, but my preference is 2 bathrooms. All dishes are plastic ( I get why), but the pots and pans need replacing, and there needs to be more in order to cook full meals. (baking sheets for nachos etc) We had some trouble with the gas stove, so we were unable to use the stove the entire stay - we used the BBQ, which was fine for us. All the furnishings were comfortable, and we were about a 5-7 min walk to the beach. This is a very laid back, quiet area. If you want some nightlife, you walk up the end of the beach and hop on a boat taxi to Tamarindo (about 2 min ride for 1000CRC), you will have to taxi back if its late as the taxi service does not run at night. (30-40US$) A couple of great walking distance restaurants. Bula Bula is fabulous! Top notch restaurant, and staff! I would come back here again for sure!

Good beach rental

House was very clean. Bed super comfortable. Garden beautiful and very well attended to. Overall a great property - only negatives were the kitchen dishes, glasswear, etc could use replacing also chairs around pool not very comfortable. The furniture on the patio of the house however was very comfortable.

Location is great

Not a 5 Star. The location is great, beach so nice, and surf is great. Little walk to beach. Walked 5 plus miles a day on beach and into town after water taxi. Gecko and scorpion in my bed where not high lights. House is in need of TLC. Broken tiles, holes in ceiling and not proper way to disinfect the dishes was concerning. At what I paid a night maybe got what I paid for.

Comfortable, but not convenient

The house was bright, cheery and nicely situated with a pool and easy walking distance to the beach. The hosts were accommodating and usually available via text for questions or concerns. The beds were very comfortable, the A/C was a nice feature, the shower is very good. The kitchen badly needs to be better equipped and a new stove. All dishes and glasses were plastic, even wine glasses were old, very dingy plastic. Limited pots/pans, etc. We saw the kitchens of a couple other units......they were much better equipped. The BBQ (both gas & charcoal) are barely holding together. A car is definitely needed. The water taxi (too far to walk with young children) ends at 4pm and a taxi ride back from Tamarindo after dinner is $40-45. There are a handful of restaurants within walking distance, very simple, nice service, basic menus. The nearby market is way over priced....1/4lb butter was $3.25! It is a great spot if you have a car, don't mind 30-40 minutes drives to get anywhere....groceries, shops, ATM, restaurants. If you just want to stay put, walk the beach (gorgeous), lay by the pool, etc. this is the place.

Wonderful stay

We stayed at this condo for the month of Feb. and fell in love with it so much so that we are going back for the month of Feb. / 2016.😄 The condo was equipped with everything we needed and anything we didn't have the owner was more than helpful to accommodate us. It's the perfect spot around an awesome center pool away from the busyness of Tamorindo which is a nice walk down the beach .Love love love it
