Pleasant stay

Pleasant stay in this lovely old pub. All the staff were lovely, attentive and helpful. Breakfast was great. We had drinks in the cosy bar in the evening. We couldn't hear any noise from the bar in our room. The room was quite small but it is a very old pub so this was expected. We would happily stay again.

Stay at the Black Swan Alnwick.

Ideally located in the shadow of Alnwick Castle with free parking nearby. The room was on the second floor up quite a steep staircase so not for the infirm. It is a pub so you get everything that comes with the life of a pub. The room was clean and comfortable apart from the bathroom fan which was I assume has never been cleaned. The extra large jaccuzi only lasted 15 mins which was about the same time it took to fill it with water so hardly worth it. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast kept us going until our evening meal.

2 nights in Alnwick,

Alnwick is friendly enough, hotel too, room was cosy but comfortable,breakfast was excellent, staff efficient and couldn't do enough for you, overall enjoyed our stay, thanks guys and girls

Good pub with accommodation

Good location easy walking to Alnwick Castle. Excellent breakfast and friendly staff. Unfortunately no evening meals provided due to staff problems.

Love love love

Amazing stay. The pub is great and all the staff were amazing! The breakfast was lovely and just the right type of stay we wanted, beautiful view of the castle in hufflepuff room. Thank you so much!

Great stay

We had 3 nights at the Black Swan and had a great time. We booked the jacuzzi room and it was a nice way to relax at the end of the each day's sightseeing. Lovely breakfasts with a good choice. Its a good location for getting around Northumberland. Would definitely recommend a short stay here.

Double room with jacuzzi bath

A nicely dressed room with all the basics you’d expect but the curtains weren’t gathered and hung correctly so that detracted from the quality look. The special bit was the huge jacuzzi bath which was great fun and it also had a good shower. There was a combined heater and fan unit which was good although it was very dusty, as was the extractor fan in the bathroom. The room was quiet and restful but unfortunately the mattress and pillows were old and not great quality. The breakfast was excellent and plentiful. Overall we enjoyed our stay but a little investment in a new mattress and decent pillows is really required to obtain a higher rating.

Disappointing break

Stayed here after a short break in Scotland. The decor was tired and dated, the carpet on the stairs up to the rooms had holes in it, a tea cup in the room was still stained from previous use and the bathroom was tired even though it did contain a large jacuzzi style bath.

Reasonable stay.

The staff were helpful and friendly but the room was tiny and really hot. To be fair they did provide a portable air conditioning unit. The shower early evening started lukewarm and ended cold and the water power was poor. Much better in the morning. The bed was okay, but the mattress has clearly seen better days. Breakfast was huge! The pub is located in the centre of the town and convenient for shops and the castle.

I was very naive booking this property due to the fact I have a young child. I thought it looked like a quaint old pub in a sleepy little town (that’s what the photos led me to believe). It said suitable for children and the room have the Hogwarts house names etc. When we arrived, the staff were very polite and showed us to our room. The stench of damp hit us straight away-it has made all our clothes smell awful. The jacuzzi bath was nice but very cramped bathroom and was obviously making the room smell very bad. As it was only for one night we put up with it. We had a lovely meal in a nearby pub but then came back to The Black Swan which had been turned into the local disco. Had I have known it was disco night and all of the youth from a ten mile radius were attending until midnight, I never would have booked. My poor daughter was terrified as there was screaming, shouting and cars roaring by all evening. The place vibrated with music and the ladies toilets were just down the corridor which meant more screaming and shouting just yards away. The worst night ever. It took me ages to get her to sleep and I struggled due the awful smell, let alone the noises. Big positive though was that it was a nice breakfast and is very close to the castle, which is why we stayed there. I just wish I had known it was not suitable for children and would be so loud and raucous.

Not warned about number of stairs up to bedroom. Our bedroom was appropriately called HufflePuff.
