The Neighborhood:
The cabin sits on a quiet dead-end road in Welches, deep in the trees with a creek running past the property. You have access to Mt. Hood National Forest trailheads, the Salmon River, and the golf course, market, and restaurants in Welches proper. The Old Salmon River Trail and Mirror Lake offer forest hikes; check current trail conditions, and Government Camp, Timberline Lodge, and Ski Bowl are all a short drive up US-26 for skiing in winter and alpine hiking through the summer. Sandy is a convenient stop for groceries on the way up the mountain.
Getting Around:
🚶 Walking — This mountain retreat is nestled in the Mt. Hood area, surrounded by nature. While not a walkable urban setting, the peaceful surroundings and outdoor recreation more than make up for it.
🚗 Driving — A car is recommended for getting around. The area is well connected via US-26. Free parking at the property.
🏔️ Recreation — Drive to Mt. Hood ski resorts, hiking trails, and the Sandy River. The charming town of Sandy is a short drive for groceries, dining, and supplies.
✈️ Airport — PDX is reachable by car; travel times vary with traffic and mountain conditions.
Other Things to Note:
• Elk Park Road is paved; the narrow, sloped driveway is gravel and unlit. In winter the driveway may need plowing after heavy snow.
• Heat is controlled by a smart thermostat. There is no air conditioning; ceiling and portable fans are provided.
• The loft is an open space overlooking the living room, reached by a staircase with a log railing.
• The living room fireplace is wood burning. Please follow the posted instructions and never leave a fire unattended. Outdoor campfires and fire pits are not permitted.
