My wife and I discovered this wonderful location totally by accident. Saw a sign off the picturesque A702 and thought we would check it out by traveling up a very narrow road for a mile or so. There is also a nature trail around the lake showing local habitat ( 2 miles approx) and great picture opps. Magical!
We drove down this scenic valley from Wanlockhead Village on the B797 alongside the almost empty river bed. Signs along the river reminded visitors that these were the spawning grounds for salmon and not to lift the stones out of the river.

The Annandale Way is accessible by walking out of Moffat along Beechgrove. This is a photo of my son I took about 5 miles out from Moffat.
