  • Kentucky State University was chartered in May 1886 as the State Normal School for Colored Persons, only the second state-supported institution of higher learning in Kentucky.[1] During the euphoria of Frankfort's 1886 centennial celebration, the city donated $1,500 towards the purchase of land for a new college on a bluff overlooking Frankfort. The new school formally opened on October 11, 1887, with three teachers, 55 students, and John H. Jackson as president.[1] Recitation Hall (now Jackson Hall), the college's first permanent building, was erected in that year. KSU became a land-grant college in 1890, and the departments of home economics, agriculture and mechanics were added to the school's curriculum.[1] The school produced its first graduating class of five students in the spring of that year. A high school was organized in 1893. This expansion continued into the 20th century in both name and program. In 1902, the name was changed to Kentucky Normal and Industrial Institute for Colored Persons. The name was changed again in 1926 to Kentucky State Industrial College for Colored Persons.

Griff, Kristan, and Sawyer were the most friendly and gracious hosts! They offered us great tips on places to visit. They were very fun to chat with and get to know. The loft was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed for our stay. The farm animals were a fun addition, especially the baby goats & ducks. The duck eggs were amazing! They gave us 6 with our stay. We enjoyed our time there and will definitely be back!

Unforgettable Family Getaway – Truly 5 Stars! Our stay at Griff and Kristan’s property was absolutely incredible from start to finish! The home was spotless and had everything we needed for a more-than-comfortable stay—and then some. The modern decor was stunningly beautiful, and every corner of the place felt thoughtfully designed and welcoming.The layout of the rental unit in relation to the main house provided just the right amount of privacy, which made it feel peaceful and relaxing. And the setting? Perfect for families!What really made the trip unforgettable for our kids were the animals! They absolutely loved playing with the goats, dogs, and ducks—and haven’t stopped talking about them since we got home. As a special bonus, Griff and Kristan even left a s’mores kit for the kids, which made our evening around the firepit extra magical.Griff and Kristan were fantastic hosts—warm, responsive, and genuinely kind people. We truly felt welcomed and cared for.We’re already looking forward to our next stay. No hesitation at all—highly recommended!

Absolutely perfect!

Wow… this home was all that we wanted and more! The beautiful decor, the thoughtful touches and the friendliness of the owners made this house feel like our own home for our three day stay for the derby (we got nice pics in front of the barn doors in the living room!) We were welcomed with a cake for 2 birthdays being celebrated, which was delicious! There were fresh duck eggs in the fridge for us, as well as a fully stocked snack cabinet and toiletries. We got to pet the goats on the farm and even met an hours old new baby! The grounds are beautiful and the owners (both online and in person) were incredibly helpful and attentive! We cannot wait to plan our next stay!

Best Property in Lexington Area!

Griff and his family created this adorable and pristine getaway oasis. If I could leave my life in Illinois, I’d move in and live out my days at the loft. In all seriousness, it is by far the cleanest, most comfortable, and best appointed rental property I have come across in my travels. Every last detail has been thoughtfully curated. We were about 20min from Kentucky Horse Park and it was such a joy to leave the craziness of the Defender event and come back to the loft. The shower, the beds, the deck, the eggs, the kitchen…all outstanding. Fresh, clean, private, and relaxing. Incredibly responsive and caring hosts. If we hadn’t been so busy at KHP, I could have spent all day watching and playing with the goats. Hopefully next time! Well worth every penny. 5* property.

Excellent Property and Hosts

We were in the area visiting friends and looked at several VRBO properties in the area. This location looked great and our stay confirmed our initial impressions. The mini goats were neat and the hosts left us fresh duck eggs in the fridge. Overall, great amenities and a comfortable stay. Wish we had been able to stay a few more nights.

This was an absolute beautiful place to call home for 4 nights. The loft was so tastefully completed and beautiful the host’s were wonderful! The farm is so peaceful and relaxing. We enjoyed our breakfast and coffee every morning outside. We will most definitely be back for a return stay sooner than later! I was fortunate enough to attend goat yoga and it was so much fun!
