We upgraded to the Excellence Club room with a pool view. We were checked into room 12206 which was the last room in the last building so far from everything that we could see the local community from our door. As we approached the room, we could see an old rusty storage building and piles of debris on the adjacent property and a large section of the wall outside the door had peeling paint. The room had a rattling AC unit, large dead insects around the tub, and paint on the floor in several locations. This was not the 5 star experience we expected. Our room was changed 2 days later after we showed the receptionist videos and pics. The Excellence Club offers a Club pool, private restaurant and bar with upgraded liquors. The pool was so small, the club bar did not open till 3 pm, and the wine at the restaurant was Frontera which is about $10 for a 1.5L bottle. At 7pm there was only one bar tender at the club bar for about 20 people...15 minutes to get a drink. We decided to sit in a chair by the bar area and there was no table service. The appetizers in the club area were the same for 2 days. So disappointing! We have been going to the Excellence Riviera in Cancun for many years and always have a nice room and a wonderful time. I think this was the first time going to an Excellence resort that I did not say that I wished we had one more day. My wife and I are Expedia Gold and Excellence Club reward members which did not seem to matter at this resort.
