This is a beautiful house with heated floors, a heated pool and a hot tub (and all 3 worked which isn't always the case with a rental). Our 9 year old loved the pool and slide, we all loved barbecuing on the outside fire (you need to go into town to get the briquets) and we loved the spacious well-appointed house. It's on a quiet country road on a tough to navigate turn, but once there it is a little slice of nice. It was central for us as we visited Sortelha, Fatima, the Schist Villages and a River Walk in the nearby mountains for some canyoneering. I could see this being a great chill house for a family reunion or trip.
Lovely property it is in a lovely , peaceful location yet only a short drive to local supermarkets and restaurants . Very well equipped , one thing that would be useful is a full length mirror in a bedroom.
Great communication
We will return
We have had a fantastic time. The Villa was absolutely perfect I didnât want to leave đ it had absolutely everything we would look for in a holiday. Very well equipped. Peaceful and tranquil. The location was idyllic and secluded. We would 100% return it was just Perfect. Thank you đ
Absolutely stunning location. Beautiful home inside and out. The owner and property manager were very helpful and easy to communicate with. We will certainly make plans to stay at this home in the future. Canât say enough how much the entire family enjoyed our stay
We came back to Portugal after four years having spent many years on the Algarve and touring from the far North, through the centre and along the whole coast.
We wanted to find a typical, unspoiled area this time and found this lovely villa near Penela.
The location, surroundings and countryside are so beautiful and unspoiled.
It is Portugal as we remembered it, near to so many lovely places, amazing beaches and fantastic restaurants.
Prices are still very good and we had some lovely meals.
A notable one at the little bar in the town near Dom Sesnando , on the corner, best meal goat in red wine, pork steaks, chips , carafe of wine and 2 beers, 18 euros. Family owned , very simple, perfect.
We barbecued turbot , drank lots of wine, went to the winery in Penela which is also a museum for olive oil production. Worth a visit , tasting with local cheeses , hams and honey.
Adelaide , the Manager went out of her way to help and advise us.
We canât wait to go back and sit by the gorgeous pool , sipping wine and listening to nothing but the wind in the pine trees.
Your house is lovely Jean.
Great accommodations. Spacious and clean. The deck with hot tub and pool area was a great way to relax after a day of sight seeing.
Check in process was lacking with no person available on sight and poor written instructions. In spite of this our stay was very comfortable. Would recommend.
The house and pool were wonderful for our family of grandparents parents and grandchildren. We had plenty of room for everyone the option for outdoor covered dining was a bonus. The market a short drive away made it convenient to purchase our groceries. The road up to the house is narrow but once there the views are amazing. The swimming pool was outstanding the temperature and buoyancy of the water a delight
Estadia 5 estrelas, nada a apontar. AnfitriĂŁ sempre disponĂvel. Tudo impecavelmente pronto Ă chegada definitivamente a repetir com a famĂlia e amigos. Recomendo sem duvida alguma.
What a lovely stay my family enjoyed in a delightfully secluded area with a stunning view of the mountains. A wonderful, inviting salt water pool, large outdoor kitchen, relaxing living room and all the comforts of home. We had a great time and will cherish the memories forever.
Wonderful home! Lots of room, hot tub, pool, barbecue area, big well stocked kitchen⊠we had a large van that I didnât enjoy driving up the hill on a one lane road to the house⊠but all worked out fine. Host was very helpful and responsive to questions
Chose this area of Portugal as we wanted somewhere rural and quiet to have a complete break. This villa was perfect for that. Had everything we needed and the pool/outside area was perfect. Pool was a bit cold at the beginning of the holiday but didn't stop us using it. Adelaide who met us at check-in was efficient and very helpful. We contacted her a couple of times and she replied promptly to help.
Had some great days out visiting castles, roman ruins and a visit to Tomar.
Would recommend if you want a place away from the tourist areas with plenty of culture and a villa to relax in and have a complete 'switch off'
Thanks for having us
Foi uma Ăłtima estadia. Desde ao alojamento, Ă localização e acessos, condiçÔes da habitação, tudo estava conforme anunciado. Uma experiĂȘncia a repetir
The conditions of the house are outstanding. The kitchen is fully furnished, which allowed us to cook some delicious dishes for 8.
The living room is spacious and the heated floors are heavenly.
The property manager is very attentive.
We also did a hike in the neighbourhood and it was very pleasant.
Overall we had a great experience.
The property is very smart, spacious and comfortable, fully equipped and clean, and is situated in a small village but with easy access to all amenities
When we arrived the property manager couldnât check us in but had left instructions, non of us could work the front door key but it didnât matter as we used the side door.
Itâs a lovely big spacious house and the setting is one of the best. Great for staying in and relaxing and also going exploring. Cleanliness was ok, fresh bedding etc but behind sofaâs etc/under things and the BBQ could have been better.
We arrived to cheese and wine which was a nice gesture but milk, tea and loo rolls would have been my preference but understandably others maybe prefer the cheese and wine (how ungrateful do I sound). We found the local supermarket pretty quickly and it was very well stocked.
The plumbing in the main bedroom down stairs wasnât great and was linked to a smell outside upon flushing but often find this in foreign properties, though sometimes I could be taking a shower in a tray of water. I didnât report it at the time so never gave them chance to rectify so it couldnât have bothered me that much.
Donât leave anything out at night, we left an unopened box of croissants on the side and the box was black with ants when we got up.
I was a little apprehensive with the salt water pool not loving the sea but I canât tell you how amazing and clean the pool was. I have long blond bleached hair and I didnât need to wash it getting out (if you know you know). It was huge and brilliant.
The property is slightly tired in areas but for a holiday let I donât blame them not constantly replacing things. I also think if the property was brand new we couldnât have afforded to go.
The view was fabulous, and we did have an amazing time. I just couldnât give a full 5 due to certain things.
The property manager always replied in minutes of us contacting her (even if late at night), though sometimes her response felt abrupt to me, but this is just my opinion and could be a difference in cultures.
Itâs a fantastic base and there is lots to do in the local area. If you have kids look up the tree experts, itâs only 10 mins away. If you like culture Tomar is a must :).
Thank you for letting us hire your home, we have made some great memories.
We stayed in this villa for 4 weeks and from the moment we arrived and met the Manager, Adelaide, we felt very welcome. She showed us around the villa and explained how everything worked and told us about what was available in Penela, just down the hill and also the local supermarkets. We absolutely loved it. The villa was spotlessly clean, the air conditioning and WiFi were both excellent, the salt water pool was heated and huge and a wonderful sight to come back to after a day's sightseeing. The kitchen had everything you would need for self catering, cutlery, crockery, spotless pans to cook with. The huge garden was enchanting, surrounded by cork trees and fir trees as well as eucalyptus trees in the surrounding forest. We got to know the neighbours around the corner who have obviously lived there for years and would wave every morning as we passed them on our way to the supermarket or sightseeing. You must go to Aviero, Portugal's answer to Venice with coloured boats that whisk you around the lagoons telling you the history as you go and which used to collect seaweed. You must also visit restaurant Dom Sesnando, where I practiced my Portuguese and we had some wonderful meals there surrounded by wonderful staff. Also visit the wine shop in Penela, Encosta da Criveira. The owner is so friendly and we bought some fantastic wine from the family vineyard just down the road. Check out the olive museum while you're there!! Try the rabacal cheese which is local and pronounced (habasal). It's delicious baked and drizzled with honey. We can't wait to go back next year and meet up with all the friends we made. IT WAS PERFECT, THANK YOU. Looking forward to seeing you again next year Adelaide, you made it very special for us.
Obviously was a nice property a few years ago but everything was a bit tired, broken or worn out:
Spa kept tripping the electrics so couldn't heat it up.
Hot water indoors supplied by boiler that kept breaking down when in the shower.
Ants coming up through floor in multiple locations.
Everything we used in the kitchen needed cleaning before use, including cupboard handles.
The heating of property, pool and spa was not put on ready for our arrival so place was cold for first day.
Some dangerous items such as steps to diving board - rotten, wobbly and broken.
Some shutters broken so could not put them up, as were the fly screens.
The instructions for the property seemed to be to help the owners not the clients - nothing on how to use boiler, internet, spa, recycling...
Lounge furniture was worn and unsightly.
Some bedroom doors would not close properly.
