Pleasant stay in Ash.

Very comfortable and quiet. Staff very helpful and friendly and breakfast very good. Hotel wasn't very busy at time of visit, so evening meal not available. Local pub "The Bell Inn" 5 minutes walk provided good pub food. "Gastro" pubs available at Tintinhull and Long Sutton, each about 3 miles distant.

Great for a quiet stay, convenient for attractions

Great service and attention to detail. Breakfast was excellent, served in the orangery overlooking the delightful garden. Dinner in the local pub which s a stroll up the road

Wonderful Grounds

This is a conversion of an old house and as such each room config is different which is quite nice. Unfortunately there was an issue with the chef the day we visited so we couldn't sample dinner but breakfast was excellent. And the local pub a few mins walk away was very welcoming. It was raining when we visited so we had to look at the grounds from the conservatory but they looked fab and with a bit of sun would be wonderful

Great stay

A really nice hotel in a lovely building with service to match. We used this for one night to break a trip to Cornwall, and it was conveniently placed for the A303. We had just the evening meal that we wanted, (even though we hadn't arranged to eat here), and a delightful breakfast in the conservatory The proprietor was very welcoming and helpful, and the staff great too. We would certainly stay here again.

Weekend Break

Staff were extremely helpful. Check in was between 15:00 & 20:00, but we could not make it to the hotel until nearer to 22:00. Staff were happy for us to arrive later & were very pleasant & helpful on arrival.

upon arrival we were greeted by friendly stall, who then helped up with our bags to the room. the room was very good. the bed was comfortable and there was tea making facilities in the room. We had dinner at the hotel on the Friday night, which was very good, but a little expensive. The internet was a little unreliable in the room, but in the bar it was fine. The breakfast was very good, plenty of variety. we would recommend this hotel and we will book again for next year. Jim 17369

Lovely hotel in quiet location

The hotel is a lovely period property with spacious gardens. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellently prepared from the cooked breakfast to evening dinner in the restaurant. All in all a great experience.

Very Pleasant Country hotel

The staff were very friendly and were keen to do everything they could to make our stay extremely enjoyable. The food was very good. The room was slightly smaller than anticipated but we didn't spend too much time in it. This is ideal for couples wanting a weekend away.

We wanted a weekend out in the wilds of Dorset and found this elegant place near to beautiful places. The room was fine and the selection of drinks excellent (though the pipes were a bit noisy and the TV remote was a tad bizarre). The food and particularly the breakfast was superb and creative

Very pleasant hotel

A very warm welcome. Room was small but perfectly adequate and spotlessly clean. Really comfortable bed. Certainly justifies very good reviews. A very good choice.

An interesting hotel very close to Montacute House

The hotel has a nice pleasant appearance and could become a boutique hotel if helped a little! We had a large room, clean with a comfortable bed and although the current owner tried to provide the necessities for a 4* hotel, the spark is missing. The hotel is somewhat tired and this cannot be hidden. The smell of food in the hotel should not be there, the drains in the bathroom a bit slow and the general atmosphere is lacking. We had dinner in the restaurant. There were only two couples in the restaurant and it reminded me of Faulty Towers... Whispered talking and no atmosphere. The wait for the starter was 30 minutes. We opted for fried oysters which were cut into halfs so that 3 oysters looked a bit spread out on the plate. Tasted ok but nothing special. The main course took 45 minutes and again, the food was very average indeed. For desert we waited 20 minutes. The desert was more like a school pudding than a 4* restaurant. Overall it was rather disappointing. We were not given a bill for the meal in the restaurant but hoped to get it the next morning when we checked out. The restaurant bill were just the waiter's docket scribbles not an itemised bill at all. Breakfast is served in the Orangery. Some of the sun blinds are broken, the plants look tired and the famous English breakfast was a big letdown. I think that the hotel and the restaurant are overrated and overpriced. There are hotels in the area that are 5* rated and provide better service at the same price.

Weekend in the countryside

Beautiful looking hotel, with comfortable period style rooms on the ground floor. Our bedroom was clean, tidy and with soft, fresh lovely linen. Shower was fantastically powerfully and a great way to wake up in the morning but let down by a small cubicle in a bathroom that could take a larger one with ease Don't let this nick picking put you off though. The welcome at Ash House was warm, the breakfast freshly cooked to order with good quality iingredients and the apple cider brandies in the bar excellent. I would definitely stay again.

Pleasant and relaxed atmosphere

The good points far outweigh the less thrilling at Ash House Country Hotel. Both breakfast and dinner (no table d'hôte) were excellent. Black pudding in the full English breakfast is rare and a personal favourite. The bar is well-stocked for a small country hotel but service could be eccentric with whatever glass seemed to be first at hand being chosen rather than the most appropriate. As last minute bookers it seems we had the smallest room at the back, which was undoubtedly comfortable, but had a few eccentric points: bathroom ceiling panels that rose and fell when the door was opened or closed too quickly, and a TV remote control that changed channels only with the volume button and vice versa, as well as providing programme info by pressing the mute button. Maybe an initiative test! The kettle lead was too short to reach the nearest power point from the tray provided so perhaps the staff don't know you can get longer leads. However, it is far from a Fawlty Towers and we had an enjoyable and relaxed stay so don't let these offbeat foibles put you off.

Cosy and classy

Gordon and his team went out of their way to welcome us. The rooms were lovely, with comfortable beds and nice toiletries. Breakfast was delicious, with fresh local produce and lots of choice. The bar was well stocked, and a really lovely place to relax. Unfortunatley we had a lot of rain so couldn't enjoy what looked like a large and lovely garden.

A great stay

The hotel was beautiful and the room quality very good. Evening meals, served in the 'red' dining room were superb and the environment very classy; perhaps a little pretentious. Breakfast, served in the 'orangery', was of equal quality although the room itself suffered from a lack of cleaning and the extent of both live and dead insects in the roof blinds and surrounding glazing was somewhat off putting. A real let down when compared against the hotel in general. The service provided by the new 'guy' was exemplary and really made our stay. Nothing was too much trouble and I'm sure he'd be an even greater success and ambassador for the business if the owner would stop busying himself by interfering. Overall, a great stay and thoroughly recommended.

A geat all round experience

This is a majestic old building and the owners are doing a great job of renovating and making it comfortable. Our room was in very good condition and comfortable. We enjoyed the garden and the meals and quality of the food were as good as anywhere we have eaten in Britain. Gordon and his staff, especially Jan were fantastic and couldn't do enough for us. Overall it was a great holiday experience
