Big Island Ohana Hale-3BR Puako Oceanfront, Huge Lanai with Stunning Sunsets!

Walking into this home, the first thing that greets you is the sight of the sea. The house is directly behind a short seawall with views from virtually every room. The designer-furnished home is two-stories with three oceanfront bedrooms, two on the ground floor and one on the second floor. Each room has been lovingly decorated with earth and island colors, art, and quilts. The great room featuring, kitchen, dining and living areas have hardwood floors, high ceilings, elegant fans and a stunning view of the ocean. The modern kitchen is a joy in which to prepare meals with plentiful counter space, utensils and kitchenware. There are bar stools to pull up alongside the chef, for family and friends who enjoy chatting and cooking together. An office with an additional sleeping area is conveniently located next to the kitchen. The office also has built-in desktops with room for a laptop or two and high-speed wireless internet is provided for your use. We are proud to do are part for the environment with this fully solar home. Newly installed whole house water filtration system. This provides filtered water to every faucet, shower, and appliance in the home. Home also equipped with wheelchair lift.

A true paradise!

This home is incredible….better than the pictures show! From check-in to check-out everything was easy and hassle-free. This location on the Kohala coast is beautiful! Sean and Robbie were more than accommodating. Check in was easy and we were greeted with a welcome tray of local goodies! Also, A/C had been turned on prior to our arrival so rooms were nice and cool. The home itself is beautiful! Everything looks brand new and was extremely clean. Finally, the view is unmatched. Beautiful sunrises greet you every morning and the most astonishing sunsets bid you aloha every night! During the day we lounged on the giant and comfortable lanai. At night we layed on the beach chairs and looked at the starlit sky.We stayed 8 nights and 9 days and saw maybe 5-6 people walk across the beach in front of our home. If privacy is what you want, then this is the place for you. At times we felt we were the only people on earth. This home is very well stocked. More stocked than any home we’ve stayed in before. As far as supplies go, we needed nothing. We cooked and ate at home for every meal.Try to catch at least one sunrise….and don’t miss any sunsets!!!We are already making plans to come back next year. A Hui Ho!!

We stayed at this outstanding property this summer and the entire family had a great time. The house was immaculate, and well appointed with plenty of extra towels, sheets, etc. The location and the view couldn’t be any better for us.Don’t expect a sandy beach. You’ll need some sturdy water shoes to walk around, but you should. We saw at least a dozen turtles in the water or sunning themselves on the rocks the first day we were there. You can snorkel right off the beach as well. The best snorkeling was to the left of the house. Just take your water shoes and a snorkel and you’ll see plenty of interesting things. Just be careful where you step. There are quite a few urchins all over.If you plan to explore the island, plan ahead as it’s quite a distance to the volcano national park, zip lining tours, etc which was perfect for us because we like to be away from the crowds.This was a great way to end our trip to Hawaii. We’d definitely stay again.

Extended family vacation

Our party included 3 families with 5 adults and 2 children aged 2 and 5. The home is lovely, with rooms looking out across the rocky shoreline to the ocean. The large lanai is comfortably furnished and we all spent much time out there relaxing to the sound of the sea. The shoreline is mostly rock pools with little actual beach, but fun for beginning snorkelers and children. We spotted several turtles swimming or sunning themselves on the rocks every day. The children enjoyed collecting coconuts, bits of coral and shells. The property is a short car ride away from some lovely sandy beaches.We found the home comfortable and well appointed. The bedrooms are large and airy, with comfortable beds and private bathroom. There is a washer and dryer and a handy outside shower for rinsing off after swimming. Closets are well stocked with linens and towels (bath and beach) and household necessities such as detergents, paper goods, and staples in the kitchen e.g. sugar and condiments. We were treated to a welcome bag of coffee and some snacks on our arrival. There is also a stash of books, puzzles and games in the living room, although not much for young children.The management were responsive and friendly, sending us information before we got there and checking on us to make sure that we were OK after our arrival.Every one of us loved our stay in this home.

Love! Love! Love this Home!

Very stylish. Very spacious. House well equipped with small appliances and cooking utensils. Plenty of extra towels for both the bath and beach. Great snorkeling with lots of turtles just off the shore. One thing to be aware is there are not a lot of showing options particularly close except at resorts down the road. There is a small local market. Great communication and responsiveness from the property managers.

Relaxed and beautiful beach house

This house has a nearly perfect layout with perfect views of the ocean. Every room walks out to the patio with it's own relaxing space. The primary bedroom has an amazing view from the deck, also with plenty of places to lounge around. This was a great balance for relaxation, or great launch pad for other adventures on the island.

Excellent Beachfront Vacation Home!

We had a wonderful time! This home is in a lovely area and I was very pleasantly surprised to see it is as amazing in real life as it is in the photos. Everything you need for a fabulous vacation is included, and the beauty of the home and surroundings just make everything better. We especially enjoyed relaxing on the lanai or looking for turtles right off the beach. We look forward to coming back in the future!

Big Island Stay

Our family of eight spent a week at lovely Ohana Hale. The homes is amazing. My kids enjoyed spotting turtles and watching the sunset every day. Sitting on the back lanai and playing games, eating dinner and visiting was just what we were looking for to end our perfect day exploring the island. We made great memories and loved every minute we were at the house.

Fantastic Puako oceanfront getaway

This is a fantastic and beautiful house for a vacation getaway! We have stayed on this road on a prior trip to the Big Island and knew we would love staying here in Puako again but this house as other reviewers have written is even better than the photos suggest. It is located right on the water (with a safe low wall along the house before the water but that does not obstruct gorgeous sunset views) and our family enjoyed swimming to snorkel at high tide just in front of the house- lots of turtles. The house is tastefully decorated, very well appointed with a beautiful spacious kitchen that is extremely well organized to make any cooking and special meals easy. Our family of 4 really liked the layout of the home and every bedroom has its own bathroom and access to lanai. The study/4th bedroom convert was very convenient for anyone who has to work remotely. Mary and 2Papayas were incredibly helpful even prior to our arrival and during our stay. Their tips were right on. The house has beach chairs, boogie boards, spare aqua shoes, beach towels, outdoor shower to make going to the beach easy. We went at the peak of summer and unexpectedly the bedroom ACs went out before our arrival but we were still comfortable thanks to the ocean breeze and extra fans placed in the home- again we really appreciated that 2Papayas let us know in advance. We didn't want to leave and would love to return to this house on a future trip. Lovely memories.

Great two week retreat

Puako beach drive is a unique beach front community on the big island we never knew existed even though we have been to the island many times. This home is as nice as the photos show. Everything was perfect from the checkin process to how the kitchen was appointed. We would definitely book this home again if it was available when we wanted to come.

Excellent Property

This is a beautiful house by the ocean with a scenic beach. It is very spacious with all the amenities. The three bedrooms are suites with their own bathrooms and open to a lanai. There is a new Weber grill that is big enough to cook for a large group. The beach area is picturesque but beware of the sea urchins and rocks. It is possible to carefully snorkel when the water is calm. There are three nearby public beaches also. The house manager is very responsive to any questions or problems.

Great stay

We had a great stay in Puako. This house has just about everything you need on vacation and the location is incredible. You walk out the door and the ocean is RIGHT THERE. Throw some booties on or some flippers and go snorkeling right in front of your place in the tide pools. Or, take a quick drive down Queen Hwy 19 to Hapuna Beach or Spencer’s to enjoy a day at the beach. If you want to relax at the house, the house has a full kitchen complete with all the utensils and pots/pans to eat in, a super comfy living space and all the tv channels you need on vacation. Highly recommended and Mary and the 2Papayas do a great job communicating with you and checking you in.

A little slice of heaven

To start, the house is more beautiful than the pictures suggest....it is immaculate and incredibly well maintained, stocked with every amenity imaginable. There was a tremendous amount of thought put in to the furnishings, the kitchen, the lighting, and the decor. The postcard-perfect location offers wonderful sunrises, sunsets, late afternoons in the water and long beach walks. Puako is a great little town, central to all kinds of destinations. The air conditioning in the bedrooms is a terrific respite from the summer heat, too.

5 star house and location

This was our first trip to Hawaii. My wife and I were vacationing with our three kids (10,13,15) in late February/early March. We stayed at this house in Puako for 6 days and then we stayed on the east side of the island for 2 days. Our conclusion was that Puako was the best place on the entire island to stay. We got a great sense of local Hawaiian culture staying where we did. Though we didn't have great weather - it was better than all other parts of the Big Island. Great access to Beach 69 and Hapuna Beach. We visited lots of beaches and Beach 69 was by far our favorite. Location was also good for amenities - "da Fish House" was 10 minutes away and had fresh fish daily. Foodland was also 10 minutes away for all other groceries. The Puako General Store was 1 mile away for quick things. The real estate manager for this home (2 Papayas) is next to the general store and they were very helpful to us all week long. It was great to have access to their advice and suggestions all week! This house was really excellent. Plenty of privacy for everyone. Our 15 year old stayed in the office on the pullout couch (bed). The other kids had kings. We stayed in the master. All three bedrooms had windows toward the ocean and so we could hear the sound of waves crashing all night, which was pretty cool. We saw plenty of whales from the lanai for the first two days and then no more the last 4. Very good snorkeling directly out from the house. It made sense for us to buy our own snorkel gear for the week. We took beach chairs out on the rocks and enjoyed the view/reading. Grill worked great. Good coffee grinder and fresh local beans were provided. Kitchen was loaded. Sunsets were excellent, though we only saw 2. Weather was so-so. Of the 6 days in Puako, 5 were cloudy and 2 were actually rainy. This house provided good access to the north coast for hiking and viewing waterfalls. Be aware, like all other homes on the Big Island, there is no AC. Several nights of sleep were pretty sticky. This house's location also provided excellent access for safe running. Puako beach road is a very quiet neighborhood road (25 mph), very flat, and is 3 miles in length - so for vacation running was more than adequate.
