## Emplacement
Gassin is a quiet, picturesque village classified as one of France's most beautiful villages. It is located in the Var department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Close to the famous seaside resort of Saint-Tropez, the village lies at an altitude of 200 meters, above the gulf of the same name. Facing the Mediterranean Sea, Gassin also borders Ramatuelle, in the heart of the Maures massif. Inhabited since Neolithic times, Gassin was long occupied by the Saracens, before fortifying itself and becoming the town we know today in the 16th century. The development of seaside tourism in the region at the end of the 19th century brought a steady stream of visitors to the village, not least thanks to the installation of a railroad line.
Today, this Provencal commune is known as much for its natural heritage as for the exceptional monuments that dot its old town. Its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea also makes it a popular destination for tourists from all over the world.
