I booked a basic room through Expedia weeks ago. 2 days ago, I got a phone call from the hotel saying that my room would not be available because of an unexpected maintenance issue, but that I was going to be given a complimentary upgrade to a modern Polynesian room. I accepted. Upon arrival at the hotel, I was not given the upgraded room because of a supposed "issue" with it. The front desk did not even tell me this until I asked if it was the upgraded room. Then, the staff member told me no. She said that I could wait for the Polynesian room, but that she did not know how long that would be. So, I took the basic room as my family was standing around waiting and the hotel worker did not seem very friendly or helpful or sorry at all. My family was excited about the promised upgraded room and packed bathing suits so we could enjoy the jacuzzi tub. It was disappointing to have been told something and then not receive it. On top of this, there was no compensation at all even mentioned...like free breakfast or a discount. Disappointing.
