The Happy Shack

It’s a bittersweet offering that you are able to stay in one of our newest shacks. You see the Happy Shack was the unit WE lived in for 3 summers. We chose it because as you’ll see it is the best on our property-with 2 good sized bedrooms, each with their own full bath. We lived and loved every inch of it. From the front yard which has full afternoon sun, and is protected from the wind for those marginal beach days, to the high fence and overgrown vines you can pull up a chair and catch the shade on those 98 degree humid July afternoons. It has the biggest grill on property for you to fire up the burgers and steaks to perfection. In addition, you have an outdoor shower tucked away to wash off the salt and sand after a day at the beach. But it’s the INSIDE that we added all the little touches that will make you fall in love with her. With big windows facing south and west you can be flooded with sunshine (or draw the shades as you wake up on the couch with a well -earned hangover). For a touch of nostalgia you have our ORIGINAL Rathershacks sign in the vaulted ceiling living room. Also, you have one of our very cool dual headed fans to keep you comfortable and enhance the central air (let us know when you figure out which button makes it spin). The kitchen island was made from reclaimed wood from an 1860’s tobacco barn and is vintage South Carolina. We were going to take it with us to our new house across the street but it’s too darn heavy, so you win. All the appliances were upgraded to stainless steel so there is an air of Five Star luxury to your kitchen experience. You can’t miss our custom designed sunglasses + car key holder and sunscreen supply shelf—both are needed nooks for a vacation at the beach. It is our master bedroom we will miss the most…It gets morning sun, and you can watch the squirrels play on the lattice fence outside on most mornings. Our headboard is an old fireplace mantle found upstate in a 1905 Victorian house that we meticulously restored. It is the romantic centerpiece of our home, and this old mantle keeps her secrets. We painted it 49 shades of VERY LIGHT gray-nothing crazy-- so we hope you enjoy yourselves thoroughly! The second bedroom is adorned with a nautical theme and you will feel your inner ocean when you snooze. Both bathrooms have all new tile and fixtures so you can clean up in luxury as you head out on the town. With you as our guest, we know she will be in good hands.
